Not very big but definitely worth a visit if you're staying in Roquetas de Mar. Exhibits inside tell you the history of the city and the Almeria region which is very interesting. The art exhibits and views from the castle walls are also nice. Warning: they close for siesta in the afternoon so visit in the morning or evening.

Castillo de Santa Ana is a picturesque well-maintained building with tremendous sea views. We visited to see an excellent art exhibition. Just outside is a small amphitheatre where you can see a variety of performances most evenings. It is a relaxing spot where you can sit and admire the historic architecture of the castle. Well worth a visit...

We decided to walk to the Castillo along the sea front as we could see it in the distance, after walking for an hour we came upon it, just up a few steps to a viewing point, not much to see just the harbour, walked round the back and came across four ancient cannon, a bit disappointing.

This is an amazing and surprisingly free to enter attraction with a fascinating past history and an unbelievably complete and competent & sympathetic restoration. It just bristles with information about not only itself but information about the surrounding area and all manner of facts, not to mention the views from the balcony, balustrades and its Tower - Miss it all... Built in 17th century, the Castillo de Santa Ana served as a refuge for the inhabitants of Roquetas de Mar, particularly those people living next to the port. In those days it was the only place to shelter from attacks by pirates. These brigands were particularly interested in stealing salt, one of the most important minerals to be found in... More
