Owner description: The Monteverde Orchid Garden is a place where you can enjoy beauty that is found in the marvelous world of orchids. Our garden has a large collection of orchids; we have more than 425 different species. You can find species that are endemic to Monteverde, and a collection of miniature orchids, including the smallest one in the world. We offer guided walks both in English and Spanish. We are in a great location in down town Santa Elena.

One of my favorite places to visit when I come to Santa Elena. The orchids are nearly all native to the area (with a few hybrids in the greenhouse). While not always as showy and definitely not as large as hybrids, I still find the native orchids fascinating - even the tiny ones. As an amature photography, trying to get... More

Spent a couple of hours here over the course of two days. First with the guide who was very knowledgeable and patient. Went back next day to take pics. You don't have to pay twice which is nice. Many varieties of orchids to be seen. Hummingbirds too! A great way to start our trip, my husband explored the town while... More

Started our Monterverde visit here ... and glad of it. Very knowledgeable guide who guided us around the subtleties of the species. Hundreds of the orchids local to the cloud forest are here, and boy are most of them tiny. The world's smallest orchid is on show. Don't expect big blooms everywhere ... this guided us to the richness on... More

Learned a lot about orchids, but felt it was over priced. Found my mind wandering while the guide talked on.

We didn't have a chance to go into the garden area, but we stopped into the teahouse for some lunch. Prices were reasonable and the food though simple was all very good. Great smoothies too. Would definitely eat there on my next visit to Santa Elena.

They have a huge collection and it was interesting to see them all. Bear in mind most of these orchids are really tiny - not the giant colourful type you might be expecting. The guide was knowledgeable but pretty ho-hum in her delivery. If you're short of time for doing things in the Monteverde area you could skip this. We... More

I honestly was a bit disappointed when I first arrived in the garden. My background knowledge on orchids was pretty slim, and I assumed that orchids are big beautiful flowers. However once our very friendly tour guide explained that most orchids are very small and grow on either leaves or trees, it was like an unknown world has opened up... More

We enjoyed our time here and there were many different specimens to look at. It was pretty neat and more than what we thought would be here.

My husband was hesitant to go on this tour - who wants to look at flowers for 45 minutes? Apparently, us! Orchids are way more interesting than we first gave them credit for - highly specialized and varied. We learned a lot and enjoyed walking around the garden looking at over 100 different species. Some orchids smell like chocolate, cinnamon,... More

Excellent food for the price and accommodating when I asked for salad substitution for their awesome soup.
