Felix is a great guide and you get a real feel for how coffee can add to and improve the local environment and economy. It provides a good understanding of what it takes to farm as sustainably as possible and what it takes to make a great product for us to consume at home. The passion and knowledge of the... More

Don Victor and his plantation will forever be one of my favorite experiences! He opened his business and philosophies to us. Share about how he planted banana trees to keep the monkeys busy and out of his coffee. He didn't mind sharing because it was their forrest first and the banana trees provided a wind break for his coffee plants.... More

I would definitely recommend doing the Monteverde coffee tour, your learn about sustainable and ecological farming, how to make coffee and you experience great coffee tasting. This all thanks to Ronny (the guide) and to the barrista. Ps, you also have 3in1 coffee-chocolate and sugarcan tours. Monteverde is not the area for chocolate, Arenal is.

This is suitable for families as there is a lot of variety here and they go out of their way to involve children. This is a family firm and it shows. We were well looked after and there was plenty of time for questions as we were shown the different processes involved. You will see how coffee, chocolate and sugar... More

I'd say it is worth more like $5-$10.. The tour was informative, but nothing you can't read in a brochure. The interactive part of the tour was neat, we got to see a sloth, overall it was nice. Again, not worth the $30. Everything in this town is a tourist trap! Way more expensive than it should be! I won't... More

We got picked up by 1 of the owners from out Hotel. As we drove he already started to explain how things worked and the Government policies on Coffee. Took a pretty much private tour. I learnt so much about the types of coffee, growth, saw the planation, the entire coffee plant is made just for the enviroment. It is... More

They picked us up at our hotel and then took care of us for a good three hours. Nice and friendly, knowledgeable and humbled. Ronny showed us the coffee plantation and told us all about their ecological way of making coffee. Everything they do they seem to do with concern for the environment and for fair trade. We definitely got... More

Costa Rican coffee is grown on predominantly small farms, or "fincas". As an optional activity during our stay at Santa Elena, our tour group visited one such local coffee plantation. A Central American coffee-growing country with a well-deserved reputation for fine coffee, Costa Rica produces wet-processed Arabica coffees. After being harvested, the ripe cherries are immediately taken to state-of-the-art processing... More

The tour did teach us a lot about coffee - different types, drying procedures, roasting, etc. However, I would recommend it even if you are not a coffee fan because it was about much more than just coffee. Our guide, Felix, was clearly passionate about the environment and how to best protect it. It was amazing to drink a cup... More
