cooking curry together with sonja was really interessting! You go to the market to buy the ingredients together (and we did not visit the to expensive spice dealer) and then you cook diffrent currys. Sonja is a really nice lady, we had a lot of fun with her and the food outcome was very delicious

Karuna's cooking is a stand out in Unawatuna. Her flirtatious characteristics made the course enjoyable. We did the afternoon session 4-7pm. We were stupid enough to book a restaurant that evening so couldn't take advantage of all the delicious food. Pineapple curry and eggplant pickle were a standout for us.

Our trip in Sri Lanka had been a bit disappointing food-wise but Karuna brought it back for us! After a trip to the markets (where not much is explained but it is good to see the veggies on offer), spice shop (tourist trap but has an amazing garam masala!!) and the fishmonger on the way back (again, not much explanation... Karuna is a cheerful but this is not a course. Visit to the Galle market is nice but it's a bit chaotic, and not much is explained about which foods to choose and how to choose them. Also, not much is explained about cooking (although I did ask) i.e. how to slice onions or garlic. Which flavours or spices work... More

We had a fun day, enjoyed the company of smiling Karuna and tasted one of the best curry (Karuna asks your favorite and makes it). But: it was not really a course. The market was nice, but we didn't get any explanations about the vegetables sold. And the spice men definitely is a rip off. The rooftop cooking is a... More

I enjoyed this class even though it was a little pricey - 3,000 rupees. There was a lot of food we were able to make and the price included a market visit. I agree with the other reviewer that the market visit could have been elaborated on and there was not a lot of explanation given while we were cooking.... More

Karuna is lovely! It starts at 11am and goes until around 2.30-3pm. You go to the market to buy the ingredients. Be cautious of the spice man - he is expensive and will try to get you to buy. We cooked 7 dishes - dahl, 4 curries, green herb coconut salad and rice. We paid 3000 rup per person.

Karuna had not her day I guess. She was not cheerful as the reviews said. Just lucky only another girl and I did join. We got more private class. First to green market in Galle, spice shop and fish shop. We may choose the veggie we want to have for the curries so it is tailor made. Also the spiciness.... More

Highly recommended. Karuna looked after us (2 adults and 2 children) fantastically well during our four hours with her. She has a wealth of knowledge and patience too. She is genuine and is great fun to be with. A lovely way to learn more about Sri Lanka away from the hotels and shopping. Thank you so much for lovely memories... More

I had a lovely day with Karuna. I followed her around the fresh market while she purchased quality ingredients for our deviled curry dishes. I was able to ask her about various items I saw and she asked us about my preferences for each dish we planned to prepare. Karuna is very generous in the quantity for each dish. There was... More
