Gives a good picture of development in the area

They could do with a lot more explanatory information. However, good range of exhibits over a large site.

Gave us a really good insight into the history of the local area, how the town came about and industry within the area. Loved the way the museum was set it was like stepping back in time.

Informative and covers lot of different history of the Local area. Laid out of a large area so allow at least two/three hours to take it all in. A small but basic café that's value for money.

Covering a lot of different aspects of South Africa and it's history the museum is well worth a visit. Spaciously laid out in large grounds with very good labelling/explanation of exhibits. Food in the Miners restaurant a bit ordinary.

Great place to visit, so much to see on this site .Wasnt especially impressed with the restaurant, grumpy owner and food mediocre, think our coach tour arrived half an hour early and she wasn't amused!) Aside of that the site is fabulous, nice shop, museums are all very interesting.

I only had a couple of hours here and I could have spent all day. A fascinating and varied collection of artifacts and historical interpretation. The best-presented material on the Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer wars that I saw during my 2 weeks in South Africa. Superb.

....if you're in the area. A bit of a mish-mash of things connected with history of the area (and more), but there are some very informative and interesting exhibits in and amongst.

This museum rekindled an interest in the Anglo Boer wars as it makes history come alive. The Anglo Zulu wars and cultural history is well covered and takes one back in time. Being on the actual site of one of the first battles of the Anglo Boer war makes the visit interesting and educational. The mine museum was special and... More

Huge museum with loads to see and such a variety. From coal mining to rail transport, anglo-boer war, Anglo-Zulu wars, Voortrekkers, Second World War, First World War, Ghandi, bead and glass history and much much more. I would recommend that you set aside a good couple of hours to walk around the museum and grounds. We hiked up the Talana... More
