We just returned from our second stint in Newtonmore, searching for the elusive wildcats. The trail itself is a good days walk if all routes are followed, providing plenty of opportunity to see the wild birds, red squirrels, pigs, sheep, horses, birds of prey and deer. The wildcat experience has a few of the cat models on the walk and... More

we have walked the wildcat trail in every season and every weather condition and love it. This 10km walk takes you from a flat riverside hike to the higher panoramic vistas all along a well maintained path.

We decided to do part of the wildcat trail after a visit to the Highland Folk Museum. We found a few cats in and around the city, but when doing the actual wildcat trail we walked miles without seeing a single cat. To make sure our eyesight was not failing us we asked another family we met if they had... More

This marvellous idea walking the wild cat trail and throughout the village searching for brightly painted wildcat models to check off the list is a brilliant way to occupy children and keep them amused whilst walking a considerable distance - and the views are marvellous too. A lovely day out for all the family - and a cheap day out... More

Completed it last year but was missing some cats so return this year to repeat and see if we can bet our score. Great fun for all, good competitive fun and a great way to get to see the village and surrounding views. Would recommend to anyone

We had a really great day searching for the wildcats in Newtonmore. No moaning or dragging of feet despite the distance walked - Hoorah! Would definitely recommend to everyone with children (adults really enjoyed it too). Be warned though - it is very addictive!

As we were staying in the village we walked the Wild Cat Trail one day. In itself a great activity and, although 10km in total, you don't have to walk it all in one go. There are plenty of places to join and leave - and super views of the surrounding mountains. We also had a go at The Wildcat... More

This is a great attraction and it's lovely to see families wandering around the village with their spotting kits!

We thoroughly enjoyed looking for all the cats . We did it over 2 days, doing the hill walk and town first, then coming back to do the lower river walk and the parts of the town that we missed. It would have been nice to paint our own smaller cat to take home as a souvenir.

Our daughter loved this - it is a form of Treasure Hunt whereby you mark on a map the location of the various life-sized painted cats that are hidden around the village. We also got caught up in spotting the cats. Some of the colours were quite similar which made them a little hard to identify.
