We stayed at the Hotel Grand Paradiso at San Giovanni Rotondo. It's only 3 mins' walk to St. Pio's Shrine, actually directly opposite, across the road. The whole place was full of pilgrims when we arrived. We all queued to venerate his remains. It was placed in the lower Church. The atmosphere was quiet and solemn here. Everybody reverently touched... More

As devotees of Padre Pio, we were very happy for the opportunity to attend Mass and see the body of our great saint. It is worth every minute. San Giovanni is a long drive from Rome; I imagine it is out of the way relative to most major cities in Italy, but anyone who is devoted to St Pio will... More

what a blessing to see and be able to pray by the body, still intact after 45 years, of Padre Pio. a great place to pray and get closer to the Lord. Mass and procession at night were intense.

Shrine is beautiful but the area around the shrine is overly commercialized. Parking is not easy, so if you stay at a hotel nearby, leave your car there and walk if you can (it is a long uphill walk depending on where you stay or park).

To visit the Sanctuary of Padre Pio of Pietrelcina was one of the main reasons I went to Italy for the first time. Located in the town of San Giovanni Rotondo (SGR), province of Foggia and region of Puglia, the trip was an incredible experience for me. There are two ways of getting there from Rome. One is taking a... More

The incorrupt body of the saintly Padre Pio is now on permanent display in the crypt of the church dedicated to him. It is well worth the complicated trip to get to San Giovanni Rotondo in order to venerate the relics, especially now that you can literally see the saint's body. However, the new mega church is so ugly that... More

This shrine is a pilgrim's delight. It is big so get the shrine map from the office - they have English map. Don't miss Padre Pio's tomb. The stations of the cross is uplifting. I just suggest that they put a signage on where to start. First station is located at the first landing. They have about 3 gift shops... More

Twas my first time to see the new chiesa where the body of Padre Pio rests. It was cool but the architectural design was not '' the Padre Pio'' ambiance for me. It was quite an exaggeration for me. I felt more serene when I was on the old church were the body of Padre Pio was exhumated.

Fine spiritual experience especially the feast day procession. I recommend this experience to everybody. The vigil on the eve of the feast was also a very nice experience not to be missed.

When my husband and I visited this place, there were no English translations anywhere. I was quite disappointed to see that everything in the Old Church museum was written in Italian. I then went to ask a nun who was on the counter next to area where you can write your petitions. She asked one of the guards to lead... More
