Ekatontapyliani Church, bears such a long history, that definitely needs a guided tour - especially to the first-time visitor. This Byzantine church, from around 1200AD, built on an ancient Greek temple, has many legends and a quite complex architecture... If no tour is offered at the moment of your visit, get the little guide book by the church's shop (in... More

I was lucky enough to visit the "Church with the 100 doors" during the Greek Easter and I have to say it was a memorable experience. An architectural jewel both inside and out. I would recommend getting a travel guide book as the history behind the church is quite fascinating. It is also centrally located in the main port of... More

This church is a must for the Island. It is not that impressive because of the size, but because of its history. This temple has to be from the first greek orthodox Cathedrals have ever been built and its name means, the Santa Maria with the 100 doors. My tip would be to visit it on a Sunday morning, when... Its not the size that is impressive, its actually small for cathedral standards, its the fact that the place was built 1,700 years ago!! Most countries didn't exist that long ago and this building was there...The guide said its called the church of a hundred doors because of its numerous doorways and arches, and something about a saint leaving a...
