Do you know how to build a ship? You can see how to build the cruise ship inside the ship yard. There's only Germany guide but it's enough to see your self.

The guided tour takes you along the wharf. Not really much to see. Just some basic construction work. Might be a lot better when ships reach their final stage but at my visit there was hardly any visible activity.

After a visit to the Meyer Werft Shipyard all I can say is wow. The tour of the shipyard offered an insight into the building of a modern cruise ship. While there they were putting the finishing touches on the Quantun of the Seas, before heading to the ocean. If in the area the tour is a must.

Visited as an adult family of whom only one spoke German. On pre-booking over the telephone, and collecting tickets at the tourism office, no mention was made of the absence of English guidance on site, although the telephonist and tourism officer were otherwise helpful and spoke very good English. Upon arrival it became apparent that the guide was only going... More

We went to see the Quantum of the Seas leave the first dock. What an experience. The whole wharf is very modern and professional. The tour is nice and informative but we got a bit of an insight by an employee we knew. Anybody who likes boats and cruise ships, this is a must to see.

I visited the Meyer Werft in Papenburg with my young-adult son on a saturday in de early summer. The booking could be made in advance via Internet. The tour itself is a clockwork operation with near-military efficiency. A film about the history of the shipyard and why Germany's builder of ocean-going cruiseships is located 50 kilometres from the sea, informative... More

Building cruise ships in papenburg... Ok.. Joke? Papenburg is where exactly? Harbor, close to sea? Big cross of highway, train. Big city for employees? Visited the 'meyer werft' and i was impressed. Had a dutch/ german guide which perfectly guide you to very nice illustrated rooms and exhibitions how they do it with nice visualitation. The view of these ships... More

I arranged a private tour in English and while it was not the cheapest it was certainly worth it. I had a retired shipyard engineer as my guide. He was most informative and no clock watcher. Easy to converse with and a real gem of a guide. I could highly recommend this tour to those interested in maritime matters or... More

An excellent visit but, as far as we could tell, commentary only available in German. However, in our case made up for by German friends who translated for us. This is engineering on a grand scale and the history of the shipyard is long and fascinating. Worth buying the book to learn more about it (available in English)

German efficiency fell down on the day we did this tour. We were kept waiting outside for 20min (luckily it was fine) after getting off the bus from Papenburg then had to wait further between each section of the tour for the previous group to finish. The talks in the beginning were far too long and people were getting very... More
