The day we visited the fog was hanging around but it still made for a gorgeous visit. Didn't get to see the entire interior of the church due to mass being held but it was very humbling. Defintely recommend a visit.

Pilgrimage Church of Wies, aka Wieskirche or Wies Church of Scourged Savior, is located in a quiet secluded meadow on the foot of alps in upper Bavaria region. The only way to get there is either by car, taxi, tour bus or by regional bus. When I stayed in Garmisch this past August I accidentally discovered from a German version... More

We went there in one our trips to Schwangau and enjoyed a lot. Church is really impressive, going there was not easy to oragnise in our first trips because we were not familiar with the system and did not want to pay for taxi, which is not very close. But last time, we learned the easiest public transport. You should... More

This is a pilgrimage church and many Germans were there when we visited. This church was built after a local woman had seen a discarded statue of Christ cry. It is a wonderful baroque church with beautiful statues and fabulous ceiling frescoes. There is a side passage where very poignant notes have been left by supplicants. We had an excellent... More

I have seen some ornate churches in my time, but this beats any I have seen in Europe. Plain white on the outside...but once inside...the plasterwork, carving and painting is surely the best anywhere! Worth a journey to. Afterwards have a coffee in one of the cafes...not really a village...just a church, cafe and hotels....but splendid in the sun. Get... More

We visited Steingaden as part of a guided tour of Germany. On a "convenience" stop, our bus made a trip to Wies Church, where we were able to enter and tour the church. Pictures do not do the interior justice - rococo beyond belief. There's also a nice souvenir stand and farmers market and when we stopped, several cows wandering... More

Located about 30 km north of Neuschwanstein Castle. A beautiful baroque, elaborately decorated church. Features a marvelously hopeful painting of the return of Christ on the ceiling. Food vendors and souvenir shopping is located in the very small farm village.

This is one of the most beautiful churches in Germany in my opinion. The interior is just magnificent. The location adds to the experience as the church stands along in the middle of a peaceful green valley. It is accessible by bicycle and car routes.

This church is stunning, there are no other words to describe it. You need to take time to take in and appreciate the paintings on the walls and ceilings, and if you look at the front pews, although graffiti isn't great especially in a church (people have carved initials and dates into the wood), it adds a certain charm -...
