This is a pilgrimage church that got very popular when more people had money--in the 18th Century, so the baroque, roccoco style is absolutely stunning, but perhaps a little too much. One of the more beautiful churches in the area, although Ettal and Oberammergau churches are also quite beautiful. The scourged savior statue is interesting and what the pilgrimage derived... More

amazing interior decoration. Must be seen to be believed. Easy to park. The interior is so intricately decorated that it quite takes your breath away when you enter.

We didn't have time to join the queues to see Neuschwanstein, and my husband remembered this Unesco World Heritage Church was in the area, so we found it. It was a foggy cold day and I was a bit unwilling to get out of the car. However, when we opened the heavy door of the church and saw the beautiful... More

We stopped at this church on a bus tour to Neuschwanstein and in some ways I enjoyed it more than the castle. It absolutely exceeded my expectations and was so stunningly perfect and beautiful. Yes, it's over the top but that's the style. It's been exceptionally maintained. It is cold inside so wear your coats. We also enjoyed the homemade... More

We particularly drove out of our way to see this church. It is in the middle of nowhere. The church is absolutely garish and over the top - I know that this is the baroque style but the atmosphere in the original tiny little chapel ( so easily overlooked near the car park ) is far more affecting than this... This church, in the middle of nowhere it seems, is very special and the inside is spectacular. It's amazing to think that it was built this far out in the country but it has been well taken care of. We are so glad to our private tour with Max from Radius Tours was able to stop here.

The church is a baroque masterpiece, paintings are in excellent condition and the church is still used for regular services. Very cold inside in January, take a jacket but that the church is free to visit and pictures can be taken is a plus. Only downside isn't the church's fault, it's in the middle of nowhere, we visited on a... More

Interesting quick stop to this church famous for healing the sick. Churches are not heated and very cold in winter.

The day we visited the fog was hanging around but it still made for a gorgeous visit. Didn't get to see the entire interior of the church due to mass being held but it was very humbling. Defintely recommend a visit.

Pilgrimage Church of Wies, aka Wieskirche or Wies Church of Scourged Savior, is located in a quiet secluded meadow on the foot of alps in upper Bavaria region. The only way to get there is either by car, taxi, tour bus or by regional bus. When I stayed in Garmisch this past August I accidentally discovered from a German version... More
