This is ruins of old castle. Several very good marked walks at Hogen Kampen National park starts here. I spent only 15 min at Pietersheim, and then went for a 11-km walk in forest. It was a really great pleasure because a weather was beautiful, and walk is easy. It is a parking slots near Pietesheim, and a cafe (was closed at Saturday early morning). There is a map of differents routes for walks at the park, but you also can check a web-site. I did a walk by foot, but also possible to rent a bike (I didn't find where and how< but doesn't had such aim).

Old ruins transformed into a nice attraction, visit of the ancient chapel is possible, clear active film concerning the history of the castle.
The main building still has some foundings.
Possibility to eat something at the 18th century castle next door.
Try one of the local beers.
This place is also 1 of the 5 entry to the national park.

A splendid corner of the Belgian Limburg Province to walk and bike. Pietersheim is one of the entry gates to the "Hoge Kempen National Park". And it has the added benefit of having the ruins of a medieval castle. Not much left, due of course to the fact that Belgium has been the favourite place to visit, destroy and loot for half of Europe from about the 16th until he 20th century (French, Spaniards, Austrians, Dutch, Germans, Hungarians, ...) but what's left is nicely restored.

Staying at Eurotel-Lanaken, me and my girlfriend were close to waterburcht and decided to check it out. It looks great at night though you can't enter, but during daytime it's free of charge for individual visitors.

There are boards explaining what you're looking at in Dutch, German, English and French so if you understand either of those languages you'll be fine.

The surrounding environment is also worth noting, nice long stretches of fields and trees, on the highest point available to visitors you'll get a nice look around!
