This tour was wonderful. The Eishole is easily reached by both Hallstatt and Obertraun, and you must take one cable car up to it unless you want to hike up the mountain 1.5 hours. We took the cable car to the Eishole area then there is a 15-20 minute steep incline that everyone must walk to get to the cave..... More

About 28km from BadAussee, nice walking distance to Hallstatt. Very romantic place with many lake-side restaurants. On way back use local train.

The cave itself is very beautiful though they could make it far more spectacular using lights and music. The downside: A gondola ride on a schedule which you may have to wait for, then a serious uphill trek (on pavement, but nonetheless) to the mouth of the cave and then a possible wait of up to 30 minutes. Dress in... More

It was a Sunday, the weather report promising, and we got up at 0430hr, and walked to the Salzburg train station at 0525hr to catch the first train to Attnang Puchheim, and then a change for a train to Hallstatt. We had the whole train carriage to ourselves throughout the trips and had our packed breakfast on board; watching rolling... More

A delightful and easy walk round this lake, about a 20 minute drive from Hallstatt and easily combined with a visit to the latter. Depending on how fast you walk we are talking about an hour on a virtually level track round both sides of the lake; not surfaced as such but hard packed earth and no problem at all.... More

I spent a beautiful spring day this May in Salzkammergut rock-climbing with some friends. The countryside was extraordinary, with the spring flowers in the meadows and picturesque villages around the Traunsee. The climbing areas are well marked, safely bolted and easily accessible. After a good day of climbing and picnicking, we drove back around the Traunsee towards Linz, and stopped... More
