Lyttleton township appears to be bouncing back slowly, after the tremendous damage this important port town received from the Christchurch earthquake.
Extremely sad to see the destruction of the Timeball Station and many other historic buildings, businesses and homes being devastated. The night we drove through the tunnel to Lyttleton for fish and chips, the port was very busy loading...

I spent parts of my youth sailing on this peaceful harbour, exploring bays and inlets, and taking the trip in the ferry across to Diamond harbour. Even on its grey days it is a benign and friendly kind of harbour.

Noisy and polluted with all the port stuff going on. Round further from the port it gets nicer though.

The port of Lyttleton has suffered some major damage to its infrastructure from the many quakes over the las 15 months however they are acting quickly to get things back on track and it is a must to visit when in the area... The locals have gon all out to make a must visit and welcome all to their beautiful...
