Fairly close to the town of Hanmer Springs and with ample parking facilities. The maps show a wide range of walks through the forest stretching from the easy amble to lengthy hikes. We choose a circular walk through the forest of about 5 km. What an excellent choice as the trail wandered through the trees and there were some outstanding... More

My husband and I walked up to the lookout at the top of Connical Hill and down through the forest. What a fabulous selection of trees we saw, and so many were labeled. An excellent walk, even in the rain!

There are a number of well marked trails in the Hanmer Forest ranging from short 30 min returns suitable for children to 6 hr return hikes to the top of Mt Isadora. We chose an intermediate walk combining the waterfall, saddle, and fir trails for an approx 10km hike that took about 2.5 hrs. The elevation gain was not that... More

Enjoyed walking around but wish that the time's were not that conservative in the brochure as I could have walked further than I did if I'd known. Maybe I walk fast.

We liked walking in the Heritage Forest - it was the only forst available for walking or biking as other forests were closed because of fire risk.

Travelled the roads in Hanmer Forest. A 10km bike ride. On a hot day it was cool to be here. It was flat and we had a relaxing ride. Great for a kids morning out.

While we were in Hanmer, many of the more popular walks, including the walk up Conical Hill, were closed, due to the extreme fire risk. Hanmer Heritage Forest, however, was open for walkers and cyclists alike, so on a lovely sunny morning we set off there. We decided to do the Forest Journey, which offered us a 90 minute amble.... There were many gentle walking tracks through the forest. The gentle walk we took was very refreshing and relaxing and we were able to walk alongside a stream. There were also more challenging tracks. It was so good to have such a selection of tracks. All the tracks we walked along were well maintained and very accessible.

Firstly, what a beautiful spot! While in Hanmer we took some time to just wander around, explore and enjoy the forest. So peaceful, tidy, and well-maintained. We even ended up finding a beautiful spot by Dog Stream and playing cards in the forest for a couple of hours :) Hiked up to Dog Stream Waterfall the next day - amazing!!
