Really enjoyed our visit to this garden, lots to see, plenty of herbaceous borders and lots of fruit trees. The children enjoyed the pack they received, including a trail, binoculars and a magnifying glass. They also loved feeding the chickens. Enjoyed our hot chocolate in the cafe, gave us a chance to warm up. Great shop / plant centre, was... More

If you like gardens and are visiting Yorkshire, make sure you allow yourself time to visit this attractive garden, set below the castle that is run by English Heritage. Access to the garden is by a seperate ticket, which is good for a 2nd visit at any time during the next 12mths.

Visited after a break of several years. The garden is a triumphant achievement for a dedicated team of gardeners and just gets better. Knocks spots off Scampston in my opinion. But Oh dear, what has happened to the food in the Vinehouse? It used to be fresh, innovative and delicious. Now it's just careless.

This is a really nice place to visit, the castle is very interesting and the gardens are lovely. Also the little town of Helmsley is very nice to visit. There are really nice shops and pubs situated around a square. It is a very laid back area which is very pleasurable to walk around. We spent about 1 hour here... More

Helmsley Castle is an interesting place, some complete and some in ruins. There are well labelled displays of objects found in the castle and relating to the area, some hands on kids activities, information boards outside and free audio guides. There is also lots of green space to run around in, drawbridges to cross and dark underground rooms to poke... More

Only expected to be here about 30 mins as there did not seem much but with the informative audio guide spent 1.5 hrs looking round. Parking is not obvious but you need to follow the signs for the Helmsley long stay car park .

We explored the village and being English heritage members visited the castle, my children loved it, nice to see the ruins but also nice to see all the artefacts, the audio tour was great. We pent a good hour exploring the ruins, views were livly to.

Loved the whole atmosphere and staff, dishes can be quirky only thing not fussed about is the bread, would prefer something softer, but that's personal taste.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Helmsley Castle. I would advise using the free Audio Tour as it really gave a detailed description of the history of the Castle. Follow up with cake and a cup of tea in the cafe to round off your trip.
