Helmsley Castle is an interesting place, some complete and some in ruins. There are well labelled displays of objects found in the castle and relating to the area, some hands on kids activities, information boards outside and free audio guides. There is also lots of green space to run around in, drawbridges to cross and dark underground rooms to poke... More

Only expected to be here about 30 mins as there did not seem much but with the informative audio guide spent 1.5 hrs looking round. Parking is not obvious but you need to follow the signs for the Helmsley long stay car park .

We explored the village and being English heritage members visited the castle, my children loved it, nice to see the ruins but also nice to see all the artefacts, the audio tour was great. We pent a good hour exploring the ruins, views were livly to.

Loved the whole atmosphere and staff, dishes can be quirky only thing not fussed about is the bread, would prefer something softer, but that's personal taste.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Helmsley Castle. I would advise using the free Audio Tour as it really gave a detailed description of the history of the Castle. Follow up with cake and a cup of tea in the cafe to round off your trip.

A beautiful little village with the castle set in Duncombe park at the back. There is a moat with a running river through the village and a little bridge over toward the castle. The castle is largely ruins but was an amazing building in its day and a lot of it can still be seen. The chamber building is still... More

As you approach Helmsley the skyline is dominated by the ruins of the tower of Helmsley castle. When you park your car you are again faced with the castle ruins. You enter the castle via the English Heritage visitor centre which is also the tourist information centre. The site is dominated by the castle ruins and the grounds are well... More
