The owner of the resort where we were staying recommended Rancho La Merced because they do not overwork their horses like some other tours and you do not ride along any cliffs (I do not enjoy looking down at sheer drops from the seat of a horse). I had not ridden in a long time and felt rusty, but our... More

I went on a tour twice, once with my inexperienced partner, who enjoyed it very much and had a really great horse! Mine had a bit more temperament but was also well schooled. The waterfall is really beautiful and the beach is just stunning! Risto, the guide was taking very good care of us. The second time I went on... More

I decided at the last minute to do Rancho La Merced's sunset ride on the beach my last night in Costa Rica and I'm so glad I did! The horses are in lovely condition, well groomed, and well trained. My horse was forward and very responsive. We rode through some rainforest cover to the beach (where we were able to... More

This was an amazing first long ride for our family. The guides were professional and the horses responsive and safe. Our 5 year old with some experience was able to ride alone and had the trip of her little life! The ranch appears to be very ecologically-responsible and supportive of the community. We saw monkeys and toucans but no sloths... More

Though I had never done horse back riding before, we followed the recommendation of a friend and went to La Merced. The people there were very friendly and accommodating and the horses were chosen based on our experience and were easy to ride. We crossed wonderful rivers, went through nice forests where we saw monkey's and other animals and we... More

My sister and I took the 2-hour beach ride with Hector as our guide. The horses were well trained and easy to handle, and seemed much happier than the horses I've ridden on boring head-to-tail trail rides in Colorado. My horse absolutely LOVED being in the ocean and running down the beach. Hector was very open to however/wherever we wanted... More

My family really enjoyed themselves on this tour. The horses are not ornery and the guides are friendly. Sadly, the waterfall is NOT to be compared with Nauyaca. The river has some strong currents and the my little 7 yo got swept down a bit and scared us all, so please watch out. The river is also very rocky. Naturally... More

Highly recommend this outfit and the jungle/waterfall ride. Easy enough for beginners and the waterfalls are beautiful. Good value for the $. Hector was our guide and he was great. They love the horses and it shows.

This was our second time going horseback riding at Rancho la Merced and it was just as spectacular as the first! The horses are well cared for and very well trained. I was excited to ride Apache again this trip! The guides are absolutely wonderful and do an excellent job of spotting wildlife and explaining the culture of Costa Rica.... More
