For $6 we got access to their jungle trails on the north side of the main road. Money well spent. There are two options, a shorter and a longer trail; we opted for the latter. It took the four of us (two of us in our 30s, two in their 60s) about 3 hours, between 9am and 12pm (late January)... More

The trails were amazing as we saw Macaw's, lizards, and other wildlife while in our way to the beach. Once in the beach, it was truly breathtaking watching the sunset! Our horses were great and never did I feel my family was in danger with these animals. A must do!

I'm not an experienced rider, but I thought I'd go on the tour since my friends were going. We went on the Sunset tour. It was fun! This tour is great for riders of all experience levels, but you have to have no inhibitions about adventure. The horses, like most pets, have so many different personalities... who knew?! We took... This was, without a doubt, the highlight of our trip. Esteban was our guide. He was amicable, knowledgeable and entertaining. The horses he chose for us were exactly what we needed for our variety of experience. The gallop across the beach was exhilarating. We enjoyed it so much we went again at the end of our trip for the sunset... More

The ride to the beach was slow and relaxing. When we reached the beach we were asked if we wanted to gallop. We said yes and then the horses took off and we held on. Exciting ride through the surf and up and down the beach. If you are going to gallop, and you are not an experienced rider, you... More

Strenuous hike through the jungle . Glad we did it. It was only $6 per person . Saw and heard monkeys many birds and butterflies and flowers. Several portions of the trail had newly fallen trees and we had a few minutes of reconnoiter ing and backtracking to find the trail once again. Difficult but an experience nontheless. Take food... This was our second trip to this area of Costa Rica, but our first trail ride at La Merced. Our guide, Esteban, was great. Very kind, patient with and watchful of our younger daughter, and spoke English quite well. He also pointed out wildlife (iguana, small crocodile in a stream, etc) that we would never have noticed. It was just... More

We come to Costa Rica every year, and every year we look forward to our horseback riding at this ranch. I raised Arabian horses for 16 years, and the horses here are very well cared for, trained well, and gave us a beautiful ride. My favorite was the beach ride, where we cantered in the surf and the horses were... More
