Visited late afternoon with a 6 year old and a 9 year old, the 2 staff volunteers were so helpful answering all my children's questions age appropietly and told them to count all the colourful mice dotted around the museum, which they loved doing and at the end they were given some sauviners, even though they were due to close... Inside the the old water tower that served Broadstairs and surrounding buildings, the museum hides with train sets, models, toys as well as the story of the tower and the history and works of the engineer Thomas Crampton. Well worth a visit for an hour or so.

We visited with the kids and were welcomed by two very friendly gentlemen who were opening up for the day. We were informed that sadly due to gale force winds that had blown off the roof of one of the museum's sections back in January, only the water tower and old water tank were open. In light of this, they... More

This is a slightly eclectic mix of railway ephemera (model and real), housed in a very interesting water tower. As with these sorts of attractions, it's staffed by knowledgeable and likeable coves. You look at several model railway exhibits, including one of Broadstairs railway station of yesteryear, cleverly reconstructed. I'll be honest; as an attraction, the NRM in York doesn't... More

An unusual and interesting water tower that houses a history of trains/trams/Broadstairs. In the shed before you go to the tower, there is a selection of model railways, all with buttons to press, so you can watch the trains going round. The beehive is also worth a quick look, though there is very little in there. Stand directly in the... More

Ideal for model railway enthusiasts. For the rest of us, fascinating to learn a bit about Crampton, a Broadstairs Brunel. But it requires reading lots of poor typescript information.

We recently went to this museum and found the staff friendly and informatiive. There was a lot of information and facts for such a small space and there were good activities for children also. If we lived in this area we would definitely become volunteers. Looking forward to our next visit. Keep up the good work!

We visited the Crampton Tower Museum on a wet Summer afternoon with 2 grumpy children (7 & 4) not honestly expecting moods to be improved. However we were so pleasantly surprised that I have been forced to register with this site just to pass on details of this hidden gem! The train layouts are far better than that of the... More

We have been here a number of times. The model railway displays are far better than the Hornby museum just up the road, at a fraction of the cost and without the gift shop at the exit! The museum itself is housed in the tower and although it's style might be called "enthusiastic amateur" there is some really good stuff... More
