the venue is great, an old castle though you cannot see much more of it except the high walls and the open area inside plus the wine tasting shop. If you would like to walk up onto the wall you should pay 4€ per an adult and 2€ per a child that is quite a robbing I think. The wine... More

This is a nice little tasting spot and they have a great variety of wines for which they charge WAY too much!!! I bought only 2 bottles there and it still pains me that I paid about 30 Euros too much! I really thought that a state run facility would be a great place to buy. Go on into town... More

This unique location is a must while visiting Montalcino. After visiting the tower and walking along the ramparts, take some time to sip a "few" fabulous Brunellos or - cheaper - Rosso di Montalcino, which is the same wine but not aged. To avoid dizziness while savouring the wines you are kindly offered bits of "focaccina" (hard pizza) , bread... More

My wife and I enjoyed Enoteca la Fortezza because of their organized tastings and knowledgeable staff. There are many tasting options and we opted for the top end Brunello tasting with local olive oil, salumi, etc. Perhaps most enjoyable was that we were allowed to taste with no expectation to buy. Yes there are many Enoteca in Montalcino but I'd... More

Joe was knowledgeable and helpful. Don't just let one of the young ladies help you - not all know what they are talking about. Don't hesitate to ask questions. More

A number of sources cited La Fortezza as a good place to sample and buy wine. Set in a old fortress, it definitely has its charms. It was our first wine tasting on our trip to Chianti and we ended up buying a few bottles. We were even so enthusiastic that we enquired about shipping the wine back to Singapore... More

We visited the enoteca in September whilst staying in Montalcino and as with other reviewers found the staff polite and well informed. We probably got a little carried away during the tasting however and indulged ourselves with a few pricey items that we had shipped back to Ireland to slurp at our leisure. This is of course all part of... More

After driving from Florence via Siena, we decided to light in the fortress with an eye on tasting some different wines of the region as well as securing some gifts to take home. We arrived late in the day so the were only a few other people there. We chose a few items from the lunch menu and took a... More
