Owner description: Altesino is a leader in various, important innovations in the production of Sangiovese from Montalcino, causing it to stand out and become a reference point for the entire territory. Some of the positive contributions putting Montalcino on the world map are: the introduction of the "Cru" (Montosoli) concept in 1975, the first experiments with barriques in '79, the production in '77 of the first Grappa from a winery and the first Futures (purchasing wine before its release) for Brunello 1985.

Ilaria was our amazing tour guide (be sure to request her if you need an English speaking guide!). She is completely delightful. The winery is clean, elegant and beautiful. I wish we were still there. Not only is the wine incredible but the olive oil is perfection. Their body lotion (made with their olive oil) is silky and lovely as... More

We went to Altesino for the wine tour and tasting. Our warm welcoming by our hostess, Ilaira, was the start of our day. She provided a wonderful tour of the winery. The grounds are spectacular and the views of Montalcino with their vineyards on the slopes in front were breathtaking. Our wine and cheeses with our tasting were delicious along... More

We enjoyed our time with Ilaria and the tasting was well done. We purchased many bottles and shipped home to USA. There were grapes being hung for the winter before being made into dessert wine. A first time experience for us.

i went to Altesino in 2001 and again in 2002 before they developed the amazing winery that exists there today. it was great then, and i've drunk the Rosa and Brunello frequently over the past 10 years. i went back this fall with some friends who had not been before, but who have frequented wineries in CA, Chile, NZ and... If only we could have brought home more wine.... What a beautiful vineyard. Illaria was an excellent host. My wife and I tasted all of the wines available and Illaria also gave my wife a taste of the amazing Vin Santo (we bought a bottle) and she gave me a taste of the grappa riserva (we bought a bottle). We... More

The facilities were great, the staff was very helpful and informative and the wine was excellent. The winery is easy to find and well marked. We shipped wine home for enjoying later. Would definitely recommend this winery for a tour and tasting.

Among our eight days in Florence, was a 9/13/2014 private tour of Altesino Vineyards in Montalcino, a tuscan hill town in the province of Sienna Italy. Aside from the breath taking landscapes, they grow the grapes of Montosoli Vinyards, which has produced the 2008 Brunello Montosoli wine. A ruby red wine whose fragrance on the nose and taste on the... More

We chose to come to Altesino based on strong trip advisor reviews and very good ratings in Wine Spectator...we were not disappointed. The location is relatively easy to find on the Northern edge of the Montalcino region. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by our guide, Ilaira, who took us on an interesting tour of Altesino describing the process of... More

Altesino was the last stop on an 8-winery tour of Montalcino and this was one of our favourites. The tour was very nicely done, and the tasting came with regional specialities of dried meats and excellent pecorino. Some of the best wines of the area! As with pretty much all the blessed vineyards of the region, some amazing views to... More
