Arriving at the Villa Balbianello in the water taxi saves your energy for the garden and museum. Not having walked up the steep pathway aproach I couldn't say if it is definately worth the investment but for me the walk up from the boat mooring, as was the garden designed to receive you, gave the correct perspective to the view.... Beautiful place to visit and a good amount of historical interest in side the house. The last owner was a collector/adventurer and the first Italian to get to the top of everest.

Beautiful house and gardens well worth visiting. Using your national trust card reduces the entrance fee. A choice of a 20 or 45 minute walk from the car parking area which is limited and parking difficult. Arriving by boat would give great views and save the parking hassle. Guided tour in English was good.

Stunning gardens. Fascinating history. This is a must to visit if holidaying on Lake Como. It's is lovey arriving and departing by boat but we have done the walk as well which is tough but satisfying. Limited toilet facilities so keep off the coffee before you visit!

We took the 20 minute hike from the ferry to visit the beautiful gardens of Balbianello. The views are magical, the grounds are well-maintained. As we visited in July during the heatwave we made the right call by visiting first thing in the morning. Not only was the temperature more tolerable but there were not many tourists early in the... Well worth a visit, at first we thought the entry cost was high but with the tour guide 1 hour talk it was great with so much knowledge of the villa. The well manicured gardens are magical with superb views of the Lake. The villa feels very homely with so much history and all the personal belongings and memorabilia from... More

This is the loveliest place I have ever seen - even better than Capri. The only thing that spoilt it was the heat - 40 degrees with high humidity!

Villa del Balbianello, which goes back to the 12th century and was popular, in its time, with famous representatives of the Italian Risorgimento. During the visit to the villa, the museum and the garden, you can spend a carefree and relaxing afternoon immersed in art and nature.

We normally would have walked to this villa but there was a heatwave so we took the taxi boat. The gardens were lovely didn't see inside the house though. Nice to see where casino royale was filmed
