This is a very holy place and like all such places the benefit one receives depends on whether you want to give something of yourself to it or just have a brief tourist experience. The steps are easy, the views magnificent. I like the way one can write prayer requests for anyone you know who is ill. Dress code preferred,... More

Beautiful views from this local church set on top of a volcanic plug. There are 170+ steps up to the church which on a hot day can be very tiring, but worth the bother.

You will not regret the climb, you will not regret each view as you climb higher and higher. It really is not a bad climb. Then when you get there, you will be glad you have done so.

We set out early on this short walk from ourania studios to visit the stunning views of panagia glykofilousa, the 114 steps are not all that tiring during the early morning but the views that await you at the top are stunning from every angle a definite must see no matter how long your stay in Petra, Light a candle... This is the highlight (literally) of Petra, the church on the rock from which the place takes its name. It isn't that high, really, so the walk up is not too demanding, and the views from the top are great. The church itself is not much to write home about - nineteenth century Ottoman Orthodox - but the liturgy was... More

An awful lot of steps to get there but worth it for the views. A visit early morning is best when it is cooler. Knees and shoulders must be covered as it is a functioning church.

If in Petra the view from this church is great. The church itself is also beautiful. Well worth the climb up the 114 steps, but easier in the morning.

If you're going to Petra, go here! Amazing views of the town and coast. Really recommend that you visit at sunset as its so pretty. Plenty of things to do whilst visiting including the market, beach and tavernas. Best part of the island!

Goodness me, what a view! and what a gorgeous place. We climbed the steps more than once on our holiday to Petra and we too saw a wedding, with candles on the steps. Just be aware they ask for respect and dignity (ie no shorts, swimming costumes) in the Church. Though few people seemed to take notice sadly. A sarong... More
