Situated right at the cross roads this is as commercial as the Nicoya peninsular gets, which is admittedly not much. The low angle of the beach makes the waves at high tide more accessible for beginners. Larger crowds will be found here than further north along Santa Teresa and the latter beach will always be my favorite

This is the perfect beach for surfing, swimming and sunbathing! The tourist books we read said this beach was quite touristy and busy .. however when we visited (in the high season) it did not seem busy at all and the beach is so long if you didn't want to be near anyone at all you could easily find a... Great location that doesnt feel too touristy yet. This place was much better than Montezuma in my opinion. That place was really small, and it actually felt more touristy than Playa Carmen. Only downside was the roads there were some of the worst i have seen anywhere. And everywhere is pretty spread out. Dont even think about taking the backroads... More

Great surf spot. Rent a board nearby at jobbies and have fun. Low tide is great for beginners, high tide is rather for advanced surfers.

Really good beach. However it is not so good comparing to the perfect neighbour Santa Teresa. But incredible destiny, nevertheless.

Playa Carmen aka "The Crossroads", is a fun place to hang out with the locals, take in some nightlife as well as enjoy the surf break in front. Playa Carmen has the only two ATMs in town, as well as the pharmacy and a couple of car rental shops. You can find a fish store with a daily fresh catch,... More

This restaurant is run by a very well known hard working local family, that their goal is to satisfy 100 per cent without any doubt their guests. Fresh and delicious local and international food.

I came across this beach by accident due to a local strike by the countries local Costa Ricans so I had to find an alternate route. I ended up here at Playa Carmen. Thank goodness I rented a 4x4. I had to drive on the beach to reach another access road. What a treat and adventure. The things you do... More
