A very informative and interesting tour of this cave including some fantastic Maori singing in the great acoustics. Would recommend as part of the 3 caves tour.
The Aranui cave was amazing, absolutely beautiful and worth a visit! Make sure you leave enough time to get from the rest of the glowworm cave complex to the entrance, as it is a little way away! We weren't expecting to be lucky enough to see a weta, but sure enough we found one!! Looked like an alien! Make sure... More
We arrived at the cave for a 10am tour with Tu. The 3 year old was having a tantrum but calmed down before heading off to the cave. Tu had a lot of knowledge about the flora on the way to the cave and was happy to answer questions put by the 5 year old. By halfway through the tour,... More
We had only 10 min to get to the caves (different location to gloworms cave) so If you don't have a car make sure you give yourself more time to get there. We were late 2 min and tour left without us. Luckily they were not to far to catch up with them. We had great local Maori women guide.... More
No glow-worms here, and perhaps not as impressive as some of the other caves in the area, but definitely worth a visit. Stephen, the Maori guide, was a descendant of the man who discovered the cave. He sang for us in the cathedral to demonstrate the acoustic affects. If you go make sure you allow another half and hour for... More
The Aranui Cave is (from what I can tell) often forgot or ignored by travelers. Make the effort to visit this cave, too! Part of the excitement is making your way through the tiny, semi-hidden cave entrance. The high-roofed, narrow limestone passage ways are a great introduction into caving in the area. The guide (often a local Maori with significant... More
When the tour guide arrived I was the only person there. Despite this she still took me on the tour and tried to make it as enjoyable as possible. Lots of interesting facts and stories. The cave is a short walk uphill. The cave is very open except one small tunnel. The formations are impressive and there are far more... More
We did the three caves in the day and this cave was the most spectacular and impressive cave. The formations are brilliant and our guide, Pam, was most informative and answer all questions with authority. I was blown away with the formations and colors. I would go back for another visit next time I am in the area.
A pretty cave that I visited as part of a larger conference group. We in effect had a private tour as a result. A pretty cave but the lighting infrastructure could do with an upgrade which I believe is in the pipeline. None the less, a good compliment to the Glow Worm cave and Ruakuri Cave.
We bought this as part of our cave tours package, but wouldn't recommend this one. It's quite small and not as spectacular as the other two. Unfortunately there was a small child who chatted and cried throughout the tour which was very distracting. The guide had to ask the parent to take her away as she was ruining it for... More
