Combine this with the Waitomo Walkway starting in the Waitomo village rugby fields for a 3 hour round walk. Beautiful walk along the river, through lush farmland with limestone rocky outcrops, onwards over a suspension bridge until you reach the Ruakuri Reserve. Follow the loop track round the reserve to take in the limestone formations, river and waterfall.

It's the largest one among the three caves and if you have limited time and can only visit one this is the one you should go.

Lovely area with a fabulous walk through the bush, features caves and tunnels along the walkway. A number of places to explore would recommend taking a torch to peer into the caves and all their nooks and crannys.

First did this walk during the day, its a lovely bush walk with cool views into the cave and down the cascading river. While the day time views were nice, it was the night time scenery that was the most amazing. We came back just after sunset and as we started our walk we spotted a few glow worms near... More

This is an ideal add on after the glow worms cave tour and won't cost you a cent. Lots of winding paths that zag and zig through caves, past waterfalls, up steps and down again. Why hasn't someone popped up a barrier and started charging for this? Whatever the reason, they haven't, so enjoy it while you can. Make sure... More

If you are in the area for a glowworm cave tour, add this 45 minute loop hike to your itinerary. Lush fern growth, rushing water, birdcalls, limestone outcrops, caves, tunnels...COOL!

We took this bush walk at night on Halloween to look for glow worms. Very scary and fun. Great trail along a stream and through the tropical forest then into several caves. Found the glow worms not a lot but worth the adventure.

The 2 tour guides we had for Ruakuri Cave were brilliant, very knowledgeable, lots of history about the cave, gave us plenty of time to take photos & that is a must, this cave is stunning, a must see for visitors to the area. 10/10

This was a lovely find, walked at dusk & my 10 year old son loved it as it was like a cool adventure place. Saw some glow worms as it got dark. Only a few unlike paying caves but enough for us. We were only people doing this walk so was really special find! there is a cave to walk... More
