We were on a small tour with only five people, and this made the tour more personal and informative. Te information about the cave system, the discovery and the current day formations was very interesting. The colors are amazing and the formations were spectacular. A must do, an all three caves compliment each other as they are all different, and... More

I first visited Ruakuri cave in 1987 and was glad to see that it did not disappoint upon my return in May 2013. Since then it has undergone a NZ$4m upgrade including the signature spiral entry and incedible suspended walkways which gives you a chance to get up close and personal to the many glow worms. We also saw a... More

Decided to do a 'tourist' day trip from Auckland and combine Glowworm Caves and Ruakuri Cave. We booked the 2.30pm Ruakuri tour by phone. The visitor centre is architecturally impressive though the actual ticket purchase was rather underwhelming. We were picked up by Zane from Black Water Rafting Tours. An amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful guide who made the experience... More

This is the best of the three Waitomo Caves in my view - the spiral descent is incredible and our guide was very knoweldgeable and entertaining. Definately take good walking shoes as there is a lot of walking involved. Would definately recommend this and the Glowworm cave.

This is one of the best cave yours in Waitomo and includes glowworms, an amazing and theatrical entry and is completely wheelchair accessible. The tour is quite long and you get to see alot of this amazing cave. I especially liked the display of caver manikins abseiling into one of the chambers at the back. The history if the cave... More

What made this cave fantastic was that we could take our 2yr old in a stroller! He walked bits and pieces but would not have been able to walk the whole way and it would have been impossible to carry him the entire way! The cave itself was amazing and our tour guide was great! There was just 4 of... More

Scared the hell outta me trying to hold onto my toddler who was determined to get ahead of us but well worth the visit. The guide was amazing and had such a wealth of knowledge - totally awesome.

We read the reviews and just went with this tour, the tour was very entertaining and Kat was great, the tour company has a great new building past town with a big plastic doom looks quite good but the guy at the ticket booth seemed a little confused with us just wanting to take a single rather than multi tour... Very interesting. Wish we had seen some black water rafters doing their thing but still really good and suitable for all ages. Fully wheelchair friendly access is impressive.

WE LOVED GOING TO THIS CAVE. We had a tour with a good guide who gave us lots of information and was very enthusiastic. The tour is nice and long, which is good as the cave is big. The only thing is that he didn't give us all the info we might want, for example, it was confusing about who... More
