we booked to do this railway trip as the weather was not good enough to go walking, although w e enjoyed it and the views were spectacular we felt disappointed by the final destination. we had planned to spend a couple of hours there maybe having a walk or a potter around some shops or even just a coffee out... I loved that as I chose to travel at the end of the day it was not too packed. There is a good selection of drinks available on the train and a choice of 'open to the elements' seats or more comfortable inside seats with tables. The quality and upkeep of the engine, carriages, and track is amazing and a credit to the many volunteers who help keep this railway alive. We went out in 3rd class and upgraded to 1st class for the return trip....absolutely great!! More

Run both steam and diesel engines. Portmadoc is a good centre. Train tickets rather expensive. More

These little train's are fantastic at giving you a ride in the old fashioned way. Try to ensure you get the steam trains as the smell is just fantastic. I found the staff friendly and encourage the little children to have photo's taken with the drivers hat on. I think they enjoyed it as much as my grand son. Hard... More

This is a must do for the visitor to north wales you can start at Blaenau Ffestiniog to Caernafon it is a day trip but it is well worth it. The Views are great no matter rain, shine, snow, you can get the national rail networks at Blaenau Ffestiniog (North Wales), Minford (southern wales via Shrewsbury) and plenty of Buses... More
