You need to book tickets in advance from the museum to see the wall paintings.
Guided tours take place at 9:30 and also in the afternoon on a Saturday only
We were lucky to be in a party of 4. The guide had little english but we had been to the museum first so were able to understand a lot of her commentary with our limited italian.
The tomb is underground and you need to go down some rough steps. The tomb needs to be kept cold and damp to preserve the paintings. There are electric lights and you are able to take photos without a flash.
There are other tombs but not a lot to see in them
There is also an altar/stage with other tombs that are still being excavated.
We spent about an hour looking round the site but were only in the tomb for about 10-15 minutes. You are only allowed in groups of 8 due to the size
The site is signposted but it is worth getting a map from the museum as it is not easy to spot and there is a rough track for the last few hundred yards
There are not any loos

We bought a combined ticket for the museum castle and tombs for E10

We've seen a lot of Etruscan Museums, and while it was not as grand as some, it gave a very intimate feeling, especially in the reproduction of the tomb la Quadriga Infernale in the final room, which was lovely. We also visited the tombs themselves and they are stunning, especially the well preserved frescoes and their perplexing themes about afterlife in the Etruscan world. Everytime we visit one of the tombs we reflect on what an intriguing people they were, and inevitably are saddened that we hardly know them and what became of them. Then afterwards we step into modern Tuscany and see some of the same faces on the residents we saw in the tombs. We console ourselves with the idea that the Etruscans didn't disappear, but merely morphed into a derivative form. Anyway, this place has lovely pieces from the Orientalizing era, and is extremely well organized, allowing yoiu to see how the Etruscan art changed over time and how it was affected by Corinth and viceversa. Not to be missed.

We enjoyed seeing and learning about the early citiziens of Sarteano. It is good to visit the museum before going to the Etruscan tombs.

The museum has local discoveries from the Etruscan era, including burial items and wall paintings. There is explanation in English. Fascinating and unusual.

There are several rooms over 2 floors with the finale being the reconstruction of the Etruscan tomb wall paintings.
We were glad we visited the museum prior to going to the tombs as the guided tour was in Italinan
Most of the information around the museum in the display cabinets is in Italian with minimal info on boards in English. We did not see a guide to buy in English
The loos were clean. THere was a stairlift to go down
THere was a TV loop running with information about the discovery of the tombs with English subtitiles

Maybe the smallest museum I've ever visited, but still rich in quality and of high value.

There are two main room upstairs, and four room downstairs to explore. I especially liked the wall paintings downstairs with the three headed serpent, the hippocampus and the demon Charun. The tomb of the "Chariot from the Underworld" was discovered in October 2003, just one kilometre from the centre of Sarteano, and is recognized as one of the most significant discoveries of Etruscology in the last decades.

There are also a lot of other discoveries to witness, but sadly most of that information are only available in italian language.

Entrance price is only 4 euros.

Mainly Etruscan. Impressive reproduction of the Tomb of the Quadriga Infernale discovered near Sarteano a few years ago.
