The drive up is an experience and worth the trip to see the vista once you've made it to the top. The Ganagobie monestary is so gorgeous and peaceful. Most of it is off limits but people do go on retreat here and I imagine that is how you see most of the sites. The vista outside near the main... More

Extensive trails allow you to explore the plateau. Make sure you visit the Abbaye's gift shop. Local products fill the shelves. It's a great excursion.

Nice. Worth a small detour, but not a trip. Very little is available to the tourist - you must be on a retreat to see most of the site. Gift shop is great, though.

If you are driving in the Durance valley (A-51 motorway), take a break and visit the ancient medieval monastery of Ganagobie - north of Sisteron on the West side of the river. A short drive up from the local road leads into a still-active Benedictine monastery whose church - which can be visited - hosts some of France's most unusual... More

It is not possible to visit the whole monastery: only church is open to the public, giving access to the twelfth Century mosaics; the cloister can be seen through glass protected windows. It is also possible to visit the surrounding plateau, notable for the view over the Durance valley .
