Great views, peaceful and not too tiring, Probably best to go early as midday was very hot. Stop for tea after at the flower garden hotel

The book we have gave us reasonable directions but it is still easy to get lost! Having said that it is pretty easy to get 'unlost' if necessary with the help of a local. On the way up you can actually get to the top of the falls a some of the way down without too much difficulty, possibly not... More

This is one of the best places to hike to in Sri Lanka – an easy (somewhat) walk. raf1988 (from Surrey, UK) has given a great advice below on how to get there. Regarding the guides, I agree it is a bit annoying. But let’s think this rationally – there are no signs/markers for some reason. There are a few... More

The walk that satisfies the most in Ella. It begins along the railway track. Beware of guides! They are all coming to help you find the way. You will meet tourist all the way up and down so don't worry, just ask them for the way.

A great 3 hour roundtrip from Ella, the scenery is great all the way to the top and stunning from up there. The guides are not really needed, its fine to get a bit lost and backtrack, but if you have a train to catch they would be worthwhile.

We climbed ella rock, there are no clear signs so it is a little tricky to find your way up and beware of 'helpful' locals who show you the way and expect payment. Views really are stunning from the top, but the climb was a lot trickier than I expected. Make sure you wear good trainers or walking boots!

Ella rock was great. A nice hike up and gorgeous at the top. Lovely cup of lemon tea from a local whilst admiring the view. Dont be put off by a cloudyish day its still lovely just your photos wont be as great. We followed instructions from tripadvisor and still needed the help of 2 villagers to get to the... More

We did not actually get to climb Ella Rock as it started to pour down with rain. The walk along the railway track was such a blast, especially if you get to experience a train coming past. I would say this is one of the highlights of our trip even though we didn't get to climb the rock. I was... More
