We did this hike today and it was absolutely amazing. Make sure you start early (6/7am) because it can get very hot. Plus, you have a good chance of spotting many monkeys in those hours. Only the bit through the tea plantations is tricky (easy to get lost) but we used the CityMap2go app and that made it very easy!... More

Get up that rock and be sure to have a cuppa tea from the old man with the wood fire and the kettle. He puts lemongrass in it amongst other ingredients. cost you 100rup. Well worth it for the craic.

My advice to you, O traveller: 1. Print a map off google images. there are some really good ones. 2. Don't always take the locals word for it. I hesitated for a bit while looking at the map, and the group allowed a local farmer to guide us for a while. But on our way down we realized he'd taken... More

Set off early to avoid the heat. Local guides can be hired for a very small fee or just ask people the way as and when you meet them.

This is a great climb, particularly in good weather and with clear skies. The views are fantastic. It can be hard going towards the top, so allow up to 2 hours to get there but well worth it. Make sure to pack enough water, sun protection and snacks. It can be easy to get lost and there are reviews of... More

It's a bit of an effort on a hot day but worth it for the view. We had an excellent young guide booked through Zion View.

We took a guide as the route wasn't too simple, although other travellers did it solo (but many said they had got lost!). Once at the top, a two hour walk, the views were spectacular and well worth the hike. People were doing this with small children, but looked like a tougher experience! The journey down took 1.5 hours, a... More

We set out at 0730 South down the railway tracks, following some limited directions found on the net and got promptly lost in the tea plantations surrounding Ella. However, one of the farmers helped us out and took us up to Ella's rock and back to the railway, without asking for payment, but graciously accepting 1000Rs each after we were... More
