Read some of the reviews and recommendations before going on the hike to Ella Rock. Thank god for TA! We noticed that you can easily use different ways to the top, so do not panic if you think you took the wrong turn. The locals were very helpful with directions, and just follow blue arrows at the beginning of the... More

Its a good hike, about 1,5-2h one way fro town. Walk on the railway about 2km til you get to a railway bridge with a nice view. Go over the bridge and turn left down a few metres to the tea field. You see a bridge on your left over the waterfall, go across and continue following the river upstream... More

1. If you've got bad sense direction, do not go alone. 2. Must bring water and some snack or something to eat. 3. Go down the way you came up. 4. Learn Sinhalese for "Leave me alone." You'll thank me later. 5. The blue arrows are your friend. Follow where they point.

I really like this trail, which leads up. Take with you a light meal to have a picnic lunch at the top. There's a guy selling freshly made tea with local herb at a fair price. The tea is served in porcelain cups, which gives it a very nice feeling to drink at the top! He also takes care of... More

Awesome and fairly easy walk. It took about 2 hours and was quite steep by the end. Stunning view at the top made it all worthwhile. Loved walking along the train tracks and stopping of at the café for a juice on the way back. Plenty of locals will try and fleece you for 5/10 dollars to show you the... More

We started the trail around 10:00 and walked from ella on the railroad to the starting point of the climb. It is easy to get lost but if you keep your eyes open and look around you can find your way up by yourself. You can use the blue arrows and marking on thr first part of the trail. When... More

We found it relatively straight forward to climb up. Walk along the railway line. You eventually pass a pre school and later go over a railway bridge. After the bridge there is a small shrine. Go down the steps on the left just after it. At the bottom, by a small cafe, turn left. Go right over the footbridge over... More

We didn't have an adequate map and got lost, it was a rough hike for us even though we are pretty active and love hiking. A local man ended up helping us, we gave him some money afterwards to thank him.

We reach ella at about 1 plus and decided to see the ella rock. Our driver help to ask directions from the locals and off we go. The directions are confusing as we did not know which way to go. We ask a few people along the way and manage to walk around the railways. Along the way like the... More

This rock was close to the hotel I was staying at. The entry required walking on train tracks which was a lot of fun. The walk and the climb is moderate. There are some parts which tire you out but overall it is fun. The view is amazing especially from the top.
