A great evening cooking your own food. All vegetarian dishes and all very tasty as you sit down and eat your creation afterwards.

Chandika's cooking class is an excellent way to spend an evening in Ella! Learn the basics on Sri Lankan spices, assist Chandika in preparing several delicious curries and last but not least enjoy your very own curry in the hospitable surroundings of Chandika's family's lovely home!

Nice opportunity to meet other travellers and learn about Sri Lankan cuisine. However, as a couple who try to do a cooking course in all the countries they visit... this course was a disappointment. There were 7 of us at the course but there was minimal actual cooking, instead we just watched Chandika cook for 3 hours. In all the... More

When I looked at trip advisor attractions in Ella, I thought the spice garden was exactly that and having seen a huge spice estate in India, I didn't want to see another. Glad I clicked on this activity though, as it turns out that it's actually a cooking lesson. The biggest surprise for me was that Sri Lankan cooking, despite... More

My wife, teenage son and I had a wonderful night learning to cook Sri Lankan curry. Chandika was a lovely host and we spent an enjoyable evening chatting with 4 other travellers, learning about various spices, participating in the preparation of a traditional Sri Lankan meal, and sitting down to eat a fantastic meal. We really appreciated the opportunity to... More

Chandika, the host of the cooking class, has a very good command of english (studies to become an english teacher) and is really precise in what he does. We, (2 persons were present to do the cooking class)  prepared and cooked different curries and pappadam and ate them. Preparing and eating takes about 3 hours. We liked the idea of... More

A Great way to spend an evening in Ella. I signed up for Chandika's short course and spent a fantastic few hours learning to cook proper Sri Lankan cuisine - the (not so hard) work pays off when you sit down to eat the perfectly prepared food. I met another 3 travellers on the course and it was a great... More

My boyfriend & I had a great evening learning how to cook all the delicious Sri Lankan dishes we have been eating over the past few weeks. Chandika is a really good teacher, he explains everything clearly, answers all your questions and demonstrates well. We made 6 dishes, covering most of the rice&curry essentials- Sri Lankan rice, sambal, dahl etc.... More

We had to ask around and search for a good cooking school in Sri Lanka and our experiences at the Ella Spice Garden were terrific. Walking up the drive way, we got to the house and booked in with Chandi's mother and sister - returning for our class later that evening. We happened to book a night where it was... More
