What a beautiful place. Unfortunately we only got to stay one night in Wanaka. This was one town in NZ I would have extended. Great food and coffee. The playground on the lake is great for children of all ages.

We absolutely loved our three days in Wanaka. We were sad to have to leave and go to queenstown, and really really preferred Wanaka to Q'town.

If the places where a fairy tale, Wanaka would be Cinderella while Queenstown would be an ugly sister. That's probably unfair, some people love QT, and Trip advisor, like all reviews depends on your perspective. Wanaka as Cinderella has been hidden away under the watchful eye of the 'ugly sister' of QT. But it's been quietly working away, a hidden... More

We have been to Wanaka for 15 years on and off, and it remains a favourite short term holiday destination for us. There is fantastic scenery (every changing), great restaurants, food and coffee. Plenty of walks and tracks to bike. We enjoy the smaller size, and quieter lifestyle over Queenstown.

Neat compact town, with plenty of eating places providing a variety of price levels. If you want activity clothing then there are plenty of shops to pop into and see whether they have what you are looking for. Most likely they will have, but know your prices! Some great places to eat - take a way or dine in -... More

We enjoyed Wanaka most out of all the towns we stayed in NZ on a two weeks sightseeing trip. It's got a very scenic lake, snow-capped mountains, beautiful countryside and a small downtown that caters well to tourists looking for a drink or meal. There are a huge range of places to stay. If you don't want to be driving... More

A lovely little town that has everything. Easy to walk around with some unique shops. Situated on the edge of the lake makes it very scenic as well.
