Wanaka remains a delightful wee local town despite the residential growth that is happening at a rapid rate of knots. Its location for skiing, tramping, fishing, mountain biking, boating, almost any outdoor adventure or sport you can think of is perfect. It is well served with a very good supermarket, pharmacies, bookstore, gift shops, a few fashion shops and a... More

Loved the scenery and peacefulness of the place. Many great walks and places to Ski, enjoyed my time here thoroughly! Met lots of friendly people and stayed at a great self contained apartment called The Hayloft.

A group of us chose to stay in Wanaka for a week of the snow season and really feel we made the best choice in staying here instead of in Queenstown. If you're looking for nightlife it's probably not the best option, but it cut a huge amount of travel time off our trip to Cardrona each day and provided... More

We stayed here only a day. Town is small, it was very calm (9th of june). During ski season probably gets very busy. There is about everything you might want, cinema, shops, restaurants, pubs, supermarket, etc. Ski fields, Treble Cone and Cardrona, are very close, about 40 minutes away. Lots of other outdoor activities. Deserves a longer stay.

Wanaka is a very nice and small town in South Island of New Zealand. It is full of Adventure and yet so calm. Everyone can have fun at Wanaka, from thrill seekers to the local market stroller.

We've just returned from a fabulous dog sledding trip with the Underdogs. Fleur and Kurt offer various short and longer trips, with options to drive your dog team or ride in a basket driven by them. We booked the longer trip to a hut deep in the snow below the Snow Farm cross-country ski trails. The dogs are a delight,... More

Small town, but packed with numerous fun activities for the entire family. Some of the most enjoyed activities include Eco rafting down Clutha River with Finn, Eco Wanaka trips with Chris Riley, Matukituki River Adventure Experience, Have a Shot, Puzzling World.

Wanaka always looks good, but on a crisp winters day it looks great. Lots of work has been done to sort tricky intersections and to pretty up the main drag facing the lake. Plenty of parking and plenty to do. Could be a little cleaner, as rubbish bins were full wherever I looked. Quieter than Queenstown (thank goodness) but with... More

Wanaka is like Queenstown's little cousin, but it certainly not missing anything by being smaller. Great places to eat, drink and shop. Just a great place to be (and the skiing at Cardrona just 30 minutes away is great).

The town of Wanaka is home to Lake Wanaka, subject of many aspiring and professional photographers alike. The pros: it's relatively quiet, well-stocked (there's a boutique cinema, huge supermarket, ski/snowboard rental shops, property agents, and loads of restaurants), and in convenient proximity to ski field giants Treble Cone and Cardrona (45 mins one way to either). The cons: it's being... More
