I adored Wanaka! Smaller, prettier and more relaxed than Queenstown, easy to walk around, situated beside Lake Wanaka with snow-capped mountains in the background, modern buildings and residences, hip water-front restaurants & cafes, great shopping - I'd happily live here!

We stayed two wks and loved it! We did day trips from Wanaka including Queenstown, blue pools, Rob Roy glacier etc. Wanaka is stunning based around the lake and resort style living. We walked and rode all around the town everything is easily accessible. We went out fishing on the lake with a local, Alan. So much fun and we... More

Pleasant lake frontage with good restaurants and shops. Some good walks along the lake shore. Visited Arrowtown, an old gold mining town with traditional buildings.

Wanaka has a reputation in The Shakeys of being a pretty celubrious place. But comparable to Queenstown it is not. QTown is certainly touristy, but there is a lot to do and the restaurants are first class. Wanaka is just congested. There really are only a handful of attractions worth the drive and while one or two of the cafes... More

Great restaurants downtown, stunning scenery. Very relaxing. My favorite stop on our NZ travels (well, ok, besides Hobbiton).

We were invited to stay with friends at their holiday house in this town. We've visited many sites in New Zealand and were completely taken by surprise when we arrived here in the summer to visit friends. A huge water playground at it's doorstep for any water sport activity including floating lazily down the Clutha River from Lake Wanaka's entrance... More

If you are located in Queenstown then you must visit Wanaka for a day trip via Crown Range Road. We were there in December and since the sun rises early its good to leave early so the sun will not be overhead where you can have a stunning view of the mountain ranges and valleys. We did the Aspiring helicopter... More

Wanaka! A laid back vibe - as compared to Queenstown and seems to be a hit among locals! Lake wanaka is beautiful and is set against a beautiful backdrop of mountains and runs along the stretch of the city. You can have a picnic /go swimming / kayaking / sunbathing at Lake wanaka.

The grandchildren liked the playground and the lake front where they could go in the water and be safe. They also liked sitting on the lake front having their lunch
