I have been visiting Wanaka for 12 years now and go there 3- 4 times a year. It is a very special place. The scenery in and around Wanaka is spectacular. The restuarants are excellent for such a small town. Don't miss a walk or ride along the Clutha River outlet track. It is a 30 minute drive from 2... More

Wanaka has several sub-sections in terms of shops - so you need to walk around. Good selection of shops and good tourist office.

We visit Wanaka a few times each year. The most recent time was in Autumn. The colours of the autumn leaves are spectacular. This is a destination which provides everything needed and yet has maintained old fashioned values, good service and activities for all ages.

Forget Queenstown. Wanaka is bliss. Smaller, quieter, warmer, with just as amazing views, plenty of sun all year round and plenty of attractions and amenities to keep even the most discerning visitor happy. Autumn is a spectacular time to visit with the changing colours and weather. We will definitely go back as often as we can.

Yeah the service was ok. Not really very friendly. No talking to patrons at all. Music I liked. I guess being a speight bar that's all they served. Tried a dark almost stout like beer it was ok. Maybe some whiskey on the menu.

Most people tend to stumble upon Wanaka, the gateway to the Mount Aspiring National Park. I did on my first visit to New Zealand's South Island but made sure when I returned I would make the drive. It's only 45 minutes and is less busy than Queenstown with a picturesque Lake. . A number of mountains surround Wanaka including Roys... More

If you are around Queenstown, Wanaka is definitely not to be missed. Perfect setting of lakes, mountains, amazing crowd, loads of restaurants, bars and cafes. Ideal for a weekend getaway for families and couples
