a good city for all seasons, it is built and organized for tourism and i have to point out, it works really well, there are enough shopping possibilities for anything, good guides for skiing hiking heli-whatsoversports, restaurant for any size of your money bag and great accommodations!

Peaceful and serene. Pretty sure the mountains would look extremely pretty in the winter. Great place to read a book and quietly contemplate.

After passing through Greymouth, Franz Josef and Haast I was becoming a little disillusioned with the South Island, but Wanaka changed al that, a lively vibrant modern town, which is picturesque too, if I were you, Id push on Haast and get to Wanaka

Town is right on lake -- a lot of places looking out on lake. prices are much better than other places close by. spent day walking around town -- felt like we got our money's worth for tourist stuff. would come here again and stay longer

After the tourist packed Queenstown, Wanaka was like a breath of fresh air. This town is highly underated. The lake and mountain views are breathtaking and the restuarants and bars quaint and varied. We drove around 40 minutes through beautiful scenery to do the Rob Roy Valley Glacier walk, which I highly recommend. Next time we visit, we will skip... More

We were astounded at the natural beauty of Wanaka. We planned 2 nights, stayed for 5 & bought some land! The walks, the township, the mountain biking was all fantastic. We can't wait to come back.

This is a great stop to stock up before heading into the mountains around Aspiring. The scenery is a great taste of where you're heading if you head towards Aspiring Hut. The climb over to the Dart valley is strenuous but awesome.

Wanaka is a beautiful lakeside town, full of friendly people, fantastic eateries like Relishescafe, bars and exceptional accommodation for example The Minaret Lodge with Gary and Fran. Nightlife was great too !
