The island of Mou Waho, one of only five islands in Lake Wanaka is accessible only by boat from Wanaka and takes around 35 minutes each way. Mou Waho enjoys special protection by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as a scientific reserve and is the focal point of a community based conservation group. The island has been cleared of... More

Yesterday we experienced one of the most windy and therefore challenging lake Wanaka's we could have. What a ride! My family, and the other family from China, loved the trip from beginning to end. Beautiful stories from our guide Chris Riley, who really knows his way around on Mou Waho. Seen the rare Weta and Weka (which cannot be confused:... More

Chris was a great guide and my family had a wonderful time. Of our 3 hour trip, he must have talked for 70% of the time and we all benefited from it. The scenery is spectacular. I believe Chris can also arrange to have your party stay over night at the island.

We had a brilliant adventure with Chris on the Mou Waho island tour. Such a knowledgable and passionate guide, it was great to hear about all the wildlife saving initiatives. We got to do our bit too by planting a tree! The scenery is of course spectacular. Would highly recommend to anyone, not just those who are environmentally-minded.

Our party of 6 had an awesome day with Chris Riley. Chris is very passionate about his local environment. He is very knowledgable about the local flora, fauna, geology, weather, navigation, and much more. He was great with our kids and really took the time to explain everything to them. We took with well equiped boat to Mou Waho and... More

Chris Riley at Eco wanaka adventures is an enthusiastic, friendly and passionate guide. Visiting Mou Waho Island with him and seeing the endangered Weka bird, being just a small group of us with no habitation in sight and the most fabulous vistas was an unforgettable experience!

Not withstanding the absolutely perfect day and breathtaking scenery, we had a great trip out to Mou Waho Island. We were treated to lot's of inquisitive Buff Wekas just casually wandering around, even sunning themselves! Chris was full of information on the history, geology and flora and fauna of the area, which was great. Endless opportunities to take lots of... More

We had an excellent tour with Chris to Mou Waho island in lake Wanaka. Chris' enthusiasm for the local wildlife and its protection is simply contagious. We learned a lot about the local plants and animals, the challenges with conservation and the history of the region. Chris is at least as entertaining as he is knowledgable so the half-day tour... We took a trip to Mou Waho with Chris Riley and found it so beautiful and interesting. Chris was a fund of knowledge and we learnt a lot about the local topography, vegetation, climate and wild life from him. Clearly a dedicated conservationist he loved what he was describing and showed us. We even planted a tree, which he had... More

We had a day in Wanaka free and are so glad we spent it with Eco-Wanaka. We did the 1/2 day boat cruise and island nature walk and our guide Andy did a great job. We were picked up from our hotel on time and taken to the dock. The boat ride out was fun with great views of the... More
