We did the cruise and hike of Mou Waho Island with Chris Riley. He was an unbelievable guide. Not only was the hike and information spectacular, but Chris, with his vast knowledge and contagious enthusiasm made it the perfect outing. It was one of many highlights of our New Zealand vacation, and Chris was absolutely the perfect representative for the... More

We did the cruise and island walk with Chris Riley. It was a great opportunity to see more remote parts of Lake Wanaka and Chris was brimming with information - about glaciers, the eating habits of moa birds, the history of the island and its wekas. The wekas (birds) were introduced onto the island in a, happily, successful bid to... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our personally guided drive along the valley and sheep, deer, cattle stations with stunning mountain views. Graham, our, guide, provided commentary about the families, plants, trees, and geology of the area as we hiked through Mt Aspiring National Park. A plentiful and tasty lunch was spread upon a tarp as we leisurely enjoyed the glacier view and... More

We did the cruise and hike at Mou Waho Island. Andy was our guide and was very friendly and knowledgable. I think it's amazing the lengths that have been taken to give a safe habitat to endangered species. The views were amazing and the Weka were very friendly. At the top of the island, is the lake. But more importantly,... More

We had a fantastic day with Chris, exploring an island in the middle of Lake Wanaka, and it was absolutely fabulous. We saw so much that we would have missed on our own. The wekas came up to us to try and steal our food, we actually saw a bell bird and didn't just hear it's beautiful chiming, and the... More

Another superlative review for Chris Riley and Eco Wanaka. Chris is charismatic and energetic and very well informed on his tours. We spent a half day with him on his island tour on Lake Wanaka. We learned so much and had a great time. Chris served us morning tea and biscuits at the top of our hike, and we helped... More

We had a half day tour with Chris Riley to a special island nature reserve on Lake Wanaka. This was an unmissable adventure for us. We saw the flightless Buff Weka, heard the magnificent calls of the numerous Bell Birds which live on the island and saw the rare black fantail. The hidden lake at the top of the island... More

It sounds a cliché, but no trip to this special part of the world is complete without a guided tour with Eco Wanaka. My wife and I went on the 'Lake Cruise and Island Nature Walk' hosted by Chris Riley. His expertise and professionalism helped make this 4 hour afternoon exploration stand out as one amazing adventure. We were accompanied... More

The Lake Cruise + Island Nature Walk was recommended to us and quite rightly so. Chris Riley (guide, boat operator, conservationist) is first class and his enthusiasm for his work and the re-introduction of Buff Wekas onto Mou Waho Island in the middle of Lake Wanaka is contagious. The wekas are really inquisitive and so we had no problem getting... More

Thanks Chris We had a speed boat trip both ways to an island in Lake Wanaka.Chris gave us a running commentary on the way, including a bugle call at the end. He gave us a tour of the island imparting his great knowledge of Flora and Fauna and guiding us to viewing places . The wind was fierce but he... More
