A couple of times in 2013 the rangers here helped us with permits and with planning our hikes. They knew about the trail conditions and helped us avoid problems with our planned itineraries. Their advice was excellent and resulted in a number of terrific backpacking trips.

We had the chance to visit this center right after it reopened from the Rim Fire. The staff here was super helpful and knowledgable, even though they were in the middle of unpacking and reopening.

Any National Park facility that would have one of my photographs on permanent display has got to be the best. I'm just sayin'.

Seeing the Yosemite High Country is not restricted to back packers, you can drive through it. Be sure to stop at the Information Center and help yourself to the materials that the National Park Service has for you there. My wife found the following site, and we found it informative and useful too: www.undiscovered-yosemite.com/big-oak-flat.html
