An easy one mile stroll gets you to magnificent views of both the valley floor and the surrounding mountains. Bring a flashlight and check it out at sunset. Access is via Glacier Point Road, which is closed most winters.

The trailhead is just off the road to Glacier Point. It is a moderate hike to reach the top of the dome and the vegetation is sparse but when you reach there, the views of the valley, Half Dome and El Capitan are unparalleled.

This is a great short hike, although the last bit is a steep climb, the views of Yosemite from the top are well worth it!

Definitely worth the climb. Not too difficult but a 360 degree view of the whole Yosemite Park. Take some water and a snack and don't forget the Camera. Pics can't portray the beauty. Make this a must stop

My husband brought me on this hike and it did not disappoint. Being the hike is considered "moderate" difficultly I was slightly nervous about keeping up. It was no problem. I wouldn't call it easy, but it's uphill, flat, and downhill all throughout the hike. (I find if it's all uphill constantly it's a bid tedious). Not only was it... More

It would be hard to find another hike in Yosemite that rewards you with a better view, no matter how long the hike.

Walking to Sentinel Dome and climbing to the top is a bit strenuous, but well worth the spectacular view. Sadly, the Jeffrey Pine which stood on top has fallen down.

It was a tedious drive winding up and up and up through interminable forest to get to the Washburn and Glacier Point viewpoints but they are worth it. I didn't fancy simply dropping down through the forest again on the Valley floor walk, but Sentinel Dome at least offered a short hike mostly above the treeline with good views of... More

Maybe it's because I'm from Florida and like my trails paved and level, but the walk up to Sentinel Dome was awful -- the last half you had to navigate steep inclines on rocks and try to decide where to put your feet and not look down towards the edge. I turned around after going up 90% of the way,... More

On our first day in Yosemite, we decided to travel around the park and mainly do small hikes to get our bearings. We decided to drive up to Glacier Point. Since we were staying in Curry Village, this was a relatively long, but scenic drive. On the way to Glacier Point, we noticed Sentinel Dome and checked out our map.... More
