Crack climbing with Yosemite Mountaineering School was awesome. We learned toe jams, hand jams, stemming, and smearing. Cracks are what make outdoor climbing more fun (and painful) than indoor climbing. The climbs included Oak Tree Flake 5.6, Jam Crack 5.7, Claude's Delight 5.7, etc. The instructor tailored the level of the climbs to our ability. We also learned to build... More

Our Girl Scout troop of 15 and 16 year olds loved this day. They learned so much, not only the techniques presented, but also learning what they could do if they just kept going. Our guides were careful and qualified, but also let the girls learn by doing. Awesome day.

Without a doubt our day spent learning the ropes of rock climbing was a highlight of our time in Yosemite! Nate and Jeff were fantastic teachers and guides and taught us the ins and outs of rock climbing with patience, humor and great professionalism. We enjoyed their company immensely and their love of the sport is evident in everything they... More

Our 19 year old son had a private day of rock climbing. His guide, Scott, was very knowledgeable and our son enjoyed the day very much. We would highly recommend a rock climbing adventure in Yosemite and do request Scott for your guide. He rocks!

Four of us went into the shop at 4:55, five minutes before closing time, and were basically kicked out by a rude man with a French accent. There was another customer there at the same time who was trying to buy gas. We were looking for socks, jackets, vests, and knapsacks....and had credit cards in hand. Odd way to run... More

We booked a weekend of backpacking through the mountaineering school. We met our guide at the picnic tables in front of the store. We are a family with children ages 8 - 13. We were fitted with backpacks and issued sleeping bags, tents, bear barrels, etc. We were briefed on the rules; e.g. pack every thing out and proper use... More

These folks have it all and they know it all. If you want gear, they have it. If you want classes in rock climbing, they have them. I don't rock climb, but I like to peruse the camping gear, equipment, and clothing.

Our guide, Greg, tailored our hike perfectly. His knowledge about Yosemite history educated us. He helped us discover areas we would never find alone. We appreciate his respect for nature and his courage to rock-climb the majestic peaks.

After a year of indoor climbing lessons and practice, we took the first outdoor climbing lesson up in Tuolumne Meadows. Worth it. Turns out crack climbing was too painful for me and my not-normal feet! :( But the instructor was great, and you can hire these folks to take you on guided trips into the backcountry for hikes, as well...
