If you want to see abundant wildlife in Yellowstone, then this is the place to go. We got close up views and I mean VERY close up views of bison, elk and even a wolf on the prowl. Drive slowly and take in the majesty of Hayden Valley.

The park brochures do tell you that on the road south of Canyon junction there is an overlook on the east side of the road that Yellowstone regulars call Grizzly overlook. There is a fair size parking lot ( 20 cars?) and it is located in the northern third of Hayden valley. If the lot is full of cars and... More

There is usually wildlife to be viewed in Hayden Valley. Summer wildlife can be bountiful and the animals can be seen from the car.

Lamar and Hayden valleys are the places for wildlife. You just watch for stopped cars to know where to find them. And luckily there is alot to stop for. Eagles, chipmunks, buffalo, some parts elk. We were most thrilled by Wolves but saw out of naturalists who shared their telescopes with us. We did not see bears on this trip... More

Imagine this: you're driving along the Hayden Valley, and there in the distance a big, blobby, brown object seems to move. You get your binoculars, and there it is A GRIZZLY BEAR...in February. Playing with a log, rolling on the snow, crossing a river, crossing the road, digging a day bed, taking a nap. I could have watched this creature... More

We snowmobiled through the Hayden Valley as part of the "Trail of the Wolf" tour in February 2015. I can't think of enough superlatives for the raw beauty of this valley. There was a huge expanse of unspoiled snow covering the valley and the entire place was one of the most gorgeous places I've ever seen. In fact, as we... More

Hayden Valley and Lamar Valley are the top two places to go to the see the wildlife. We did see a lot of bison and a even a calf. In addition, we also seen a coyote and a fox while we were in this area. In addition, to the wildlife the scenery is fabulous.

The Hayden Valley is in the heart of Yellowstone with the east gate giving you the nearest access. It's 7 miles wide and 7 miles long and was once filled with water from an arm of the Yellowstone river. Glacial till from 13,000 years ago and river sediments created a marshy environment today which has little tree encroachment. Bison, elk... More

We have seen the Canyon Pack of wolves on two separate trips through Hayden Valley. The road between Fishing Bridge and Canyon Village follows the Yellowstone River for 16 miles through beautiful Hayden Valley. Wildlife is guaranteed. Enjoy.
