I am a riding novice. But I thoroughly enjoyed being able to "pilot" my horse Amarillo with just a little instruction. Holly is really great, she showed me how to communicate with my horse and encouraged me to ride, not just follow the horse ahead. It really was great and gave me a good feeling for what it was like... More

The Sage Meadow Ranch is doing it right! Holly and her wrangler Devon were great hosts. Our family of four has had minimal riding experience (like once or even never before). They outfitted us all with horses that were a good match for our abilities. Holly was really good about getting us all accommodated to each other (horse and rider,... More

This place is gorgeous and the horses aren't just horses, they're family. Holly and her fantastic wranglers Jess, Taren, and Jason are knowledgable and provide a fun and friendly trail ride. The trail is challenging and you really get to ride the horse instead of just sitting in a line. Best trail riding I've ever done. A must do when... More

Our family took a trip through Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and back through the Black Hills and Badlands. We went to the top of mountains, white water rafting, caving, hiking, climbing, etc., and we all agree that the highlight of our trip was horseback riding with Sage Meadow Ranch. While amateurs, we have been on numerous trail rides, which have always... More

I booked over the phone with Holly for the morning of the 4th. We discussed my skill level (very minimal!) but Holly felt I would be able to handle the 3 hour ride. Since it is quite hot in July we agreed to an 8 am start rather than the usual 9. I appreciated Holly's flexibility. Although the booking is... More

Sage Meadow Ranch offers a variety of scenery. You ride through the meadows but also get a taste of the beautiful canyons. Holly never fails to match you up with the perfect horse. No need to be right behind another horses butt, you can go off the trail and enjoy what the black hills offers. You won't be disappointed with... More

Absolutely wonderful location on a private ranch out in the middle of nowhere in the Black Hills. If you are looking for a horse back riding adventure off the beaten track you are in the right spot. Horses, equipment and facilities are very well tended to with love and care. Holly pays attention to details. And as a horse person... More

wonderful time , very personalized riding experience. It is best if you have some riding experience since the trails are somewhat hilly. Lovely surroundings

We went to Sage Meadow Ranch on a whim on our vacation after hearing that it wasn't the typical nose to tail ride- and we were so impressed. It was 1000x better then any nose to tail ride I've ever been on. Holly was wonderful, kind and knowledgeable, and her horses were mirrors of all of those things. So highly... More

I don't think we could've found a better place to ride in the Black Hills! Holly and her horses were absolutely wonderful. She takes great care of them and it shows in the horse's calm and content mannerisms. Each horse had their own personality which made for a fun and memorable ride. The trails take you through lovely South Dakota... More
