My fiancé visited the Cincinnati Observatory for the Starlit Picnic on August 29, 2015. It was a fundraiser for their school programs and was closed to the public for the evening for this private event. Tickets were advanced purchase. We had never been to the Observatory before and the grounds and surrounding neighborhood is absolutely gorgeous. There was a string... More

You want some Pink Floyd playing as you tickle through the stars and planets. Having a scheduled time is essential. This building is gorgeous, as is most old architecture in Cincinnati. I have loved astronomy since I was a kid so it afforded me a chance to geek out. Once you see a planet with your own eyes, instead of... More

Visited the observatory for "late night date night" and had a wonderful experience. We were able to observe planets and stars through one of the oldest telescopes in the country and get a tour of a national historic landmark. Definitely recommend to anyone who has an interest in astronomy, history or both.

We had a scheduled time and arrived with no problems. Unfortunately the weather was extremely cloudy (March) and the wonderful lady at the front desk was honest with us and told us the viewing would probably not show us anything. There are 2 different historical looking buildings with telescopes unfortunately it was all the weather that dampened the evening. We... More

Try to go in the winter for the special events... luminaries up and down the street, free access, crisp evening.... A great gem.

We attended a very interesting stargazing event at the observatory. The volunteers did a great job of explaining how to use the telescopes, plus gave a short presentation on comets & meteorites, & gave history of how the telescopes got there. We got to see craters on the moon, & a double star. The cost was a $5 donation per... More

We were able to participate in the public tour and stargazing event. Do check their website for contact information and times/dates of events. They have limited number of spots for the events. The night we went was too cloudy but we still enjoyed seeing the telescopes and learning the impressive history of the observatory. The guide and lecturer were very... More

I grew up in the area, but didn't get to the Observatory until I was an adult. My then-fiance and I went to one of the public stargazing nights as one of our early dates. It was amazing. The staff were universally knowledgeable and kind and worked to ensure that everyone at the event had a good time. They were... More

I grew up in the area and remember going to the Observatory for a field trip but I had never been at night. My son and I went for Saturnday Saturday. There are several telescopes set up and on two of them we got to see Saturn and one of it's rings. Before looking through the telescope, the guide told... More

This is quite small, but a beautiful observatory. You will never feel bored, if you are interested in astronomy. Also they have lot of program, watch out for their calender.
