We learned about the Ala Moana Beach Park from a person at the pool. This beach is as nice or nicer than Waikiki and we had a great time.

Ala Moana park is a gathering lace for locals to swim and play sports. A lot of homeless people hang around the area. However at night they are required to vacate the area but I would not walk through the park at night. We have taken surfing lessons in the area and it has good surf for beginners. Locals fish... We were looking for a beach that was easy to get to after we hiked Diamond Head, and this one fit the bill. There are hardly any waves, and the sand beach is full of small rocks. My kids (6 and 10) enjoyed splashing around in the water and laying in the sand. But it's not a very pretty beach,... More

This beach is an alternative for wedding photo's because you can park easily. (depending on when you go) There are nice areas, but you will find some sketchy encampments here. My preference is Fort DeRussy, if your staying downtown. (its an easy walk) Or out by the aquarium, this was les populated with good beach front.

Great beach for kids and swimming. The beach is nice and long and the water is pretty calm due to an outlying reef. This beach is great for stand up paddle boarding and you can rent them from Hawaii Beach TIme (808-585-1474) located in front of the tennis courts. Public showers and washrooms as well as lots of free parking.... More

Both times we visited this beach it was very busy. It is a very wide, long stretch of beach that does give you a lot of options to find a place but it's still crowded. Parking was difficult to find after driving around for several minutes. The best parking was on the street along the beach. The parking lot was... More

I was lucky enough to be in Hawai´i at Memorial Day and thus be able to participate in the annual Lantern Floating Ceremony at Ala Moana Beach. It was such a great and beautiful experience ! The event starts in the morning when you - if you wish - can request a lantern and write your remembrances. The actual ceremony... More

A homeless people hang out, sad but true. Also full of litter. Wasn't our idea of fun. It had been recommended to us as a place to go. I would recommend the beaches down by the aquarium. The parks seemed much cleaner there. Also out side the Hilton Hawaiian village/fort DeRussy mid morning was good. Not too crowded.

Some tourists do not like to come here because the locals come here, and some homeless can be found here. We, however loved it. The water is amazing. There are areas to surf, paddle board, swim in crystal clear calm waters, or watch the surfers ride 15 foot waves yards away. Very large park with lots of clean restrooms, drinking... More

Love the ease of getting to from hotel Lots of homeless people and somewhat hard to take walk at some points as they are blocking walkway. Can't even compare to wakaikai beach.
