what a hike... first suggestion do this early morning, before the heat of the day, I am in fairly good shape and still found this quite challenging. The climb is quite steep and half way the rail tracks drop out like a bridge if you go to the right you can go around rather than over after that the climb... More

All steps straight up to the top but worth it for the sunrise views! I am a little afraid of heights but did it so don't let that stop you! Not for people not in good shape. It took us a little over 1.5 hours for the whole thing (including spending some time at the top)

We loved going straight up the mountain on the old tracks. It was fun to look back at the progress we had made as we climbed. The 360 view of the island from the top and the old military bunker is worth the trip.

We were recommended to climb the Koko Crater Trail by my brother when he visited Oahu some years back. Told me it's going to be a tough climb and sure enough, it was tough! It's over a thousand steps up and another thousand steps down. Well worth your time and effort once you get to the top to view the... More

This is more like a cardio workout than a proper trail, but the view on top is superb. Bring water and hiking sticks. Going down is the hardest part, and it'll be really tough on the knees without sticks. Consider skipping this if you have lower-body joint issues. I think it's about 3000 long with an elevation gain of about... More

This short but tough hike is for those who don't take a vacation from their regular workouts and who hate being inside a gym. It is definitely challenging. The only person you are racing against is yourself- there IS NO SHAME- in taking a break on the way up. Please heed the advice here- if you are not remotely in... More

One of the hardest things for us, was finding the entrance to the park...as the obvious entrance was closed off. We had to meander thru the residential area to find it. This is not a trail to do in the heat of the day. We had been outside all morning, so it was not the best decision to attempt this...but... More

Our Hawaiian friends drove us to the start of the trail. From our hotel the Waikiki Banyan (a few blocks away from the Zoo), the Koko Crater parking lot is approximately 10.5 miles away. Initially, we had difficulty finding the start of the trail. We walked off the trail (to the right of the baseball diamond) up the embankment about... More

This is a great hike. I've never made it to the top but its a goal I have. Lots of people hike this, some even run it. People are on the trail day and night. At night we can see flashlights going up and down the trail. It has railroad ties for the hardy people but most people like to... More
