The museum's collection exceeded my expectations. It covers art from almost everywhere in the world and covers a wide span of time as well. We took 3 hours to cover the museum, you could easily spend twice that looking at the hundreds of pieces on display. There is a sizable cafe and museum store as well. The exhibits are grouped... One of the most exciting small museums in the US. Excellent collection or Asian art. Always new shows. Also lots of activities. If you are visiting check the monthly schedule for shows and also film festivals at Doris Duke Theater.

I actually got to tour the museum as part of the Shangri La Tour package. After seeing Doris Duke's homage to Islami art, it was fun to come back to the building and consider some of the similarities in the architecture and layout of the rooms with the indoor and outdoor spaces so closely married. The collections are small, and... More

We came here originally because this was where we got the van for our tour of Shangri La, but after the tour, we returned to spend some time in the museum which features a variety of art. Take time for lunch in the museum's restaurant and visit the gift shop which has a good selection of books and art of... More

Built around several courtyards, this Museum is literally an oasis in the city. The collections they have are unbelievable - from 4,000 year old artifacts to modern Hawaiian art. Highly recommend this venue and, as a bonus, the cafe serves a wonderful lunch.

It's in a lovely setting and is beautifully maintained. They have a wonderful collection of Japanese prints, and I enjoy their small but choice selection of Japanese, Chinese and Korean ceramics. They have a very good restaurant, lunch only, and you usually need a reservation.

There are many things to recommend a visit to this museum. The building itself, a series of courtyards with surrounding galleries is of interest. The collection is wide-ranging from antiquities, ethnographic material, Hawaiiana, to contemporary art. It is for the most part displayed well with good labeling. The gift shop has many unique items and a good place to find... More

Need to book the Doris Duke's Shangri La Tour well ahead of your arrival date. Best to book it on-line. Or you may phone in to book your tour at 1-866-DUKE-TIX Tuesday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The exhibits are good, and the display rooms are well kept and in a quiet and peaceful setting. This is also the start of the tour for Shangri-La, the Doris Duke estate. The #2 bus stops right in front, which makes it easily accessible. It also has a lovely setting for the restaurant, with very good food.
