You need to spend a day here especially if you are into art. The exhibits are great and there are so many to see.

Beautiful museum and nice temporary exhibits; staff very helpful. They informed us of the Farmer's Market across the street and bus information.

I admit I was a little skeptical about the quality of this museum, being from the East Coast where there are plenty of famous BIG name museums. However, the Academy was a great museum that is well curated and the temp shows were really interesting. Definitly worth the time if you have any interest in art or culuture through art.

After the tour a quick peek in the galleries showed a nice assortment of art from all periods. Nice little courtyards between each building. There was a special exhibit on Tattooing that was very interesting.

In addition to lovely art exhibits in a lovely building, there is also a little cafe and adjoining Doris Duke film venue. Special events are often held here as well. The courtyard adds to the charm. It is easily accessible by bus and near downtown.

The main collection is, not surprisingly, particularly strong in Asian arts. Temporary exhibits from the permanent collection are among the finest here. There are fine works of art in virtually every genre from every period. The branch in Makiki focuses on contemporary art. The grounds are beautiful and the cafe a relaxing place for a delicious lunch.

Family is fun! They have little live shows in the court yard and craft tables set up for the children. The gift shop and cafe are wonderful but pricey. The exhibit halls and courtyards are beautiful!

If you are staying in Waikiki, this museum is just a short bus ride away, with the stop right at the front door. For $10 you will be treated to the beautifully displayed world art, with an unforgetable selection of unique Asian artifacts. The building itself is a pure delight, with several charming courtyards, a great cafe, and an interesting... More

The museum itself is nice with courtyards and a wonderful cafe for lunch. If you are fortunate to be in town towards the end of the month, the museum hosts a monthly event called Art After Dark. For $10 (or free with annual membership) you can view select exhibitions and artwork during this themed night with local food from nearby... More

Before my sister, husband and I went on a tour of Shangri La, a friendly, helpful docent directed us to the Hawaiian art gallery. We were allowed to take pictures, without flash, of the art work. I particularly liked the realistic volcanic eruption paintings. The European section is modeled after the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, although smaller, contains the... More
