It's not the Louvre, but it has nice exhibits from local artists. Try to go when you can get in for free. More

This museum has some surprisingly impressive collections including originals of European masters (a la Monet). The Asian Art exhibit is worth the price of admission alone. When you go, be sure to have reservations to dine in their lovely courtyard cafe! More

Surprising to see that the museum shop did not sell local artists' items extensively. the cafe had a pricey but interesting looking menu but entry is based on membership. it looked a bit like "elite white people" club which was a bit disturbing. More

We spent some time viewing the exhibits while waiting for our tour of Shangri La and were delighted with the Asian Art. The museum is well designed around a series of courtyards and the collection of Asian art is awesome. I was especially impressed with the art attributed to Buddhist practices in different Asian countries and the collection of gorgeous... More

A must see. And it's close to downtown. Easy to get to by car or bus. Entrance fee here also entitles you to see the Contemporary Art Museum. More

If you happen to be in Honolulu, you should not miss the Honolulu Academy of Art, now the Honolulu Museum of Art. It houses a collection that spans several thousand years, starting from the Assyrians (in their Mediterranean Galleries). The highlight in my opinion is their Asian Collection (on permanent view), something the museum excels at. Not to miss is... More

Small. Doable in one morning. Wonderful collection for a remote place like Hawai'i. BTW, the name has changed to the Honolulu Museum of Arts. More

We found ourselves here after taking a tour of Shangri La. As the cost of entry to the Academy of Arts was included with our Shangri La tickets we thought we may as well take a quick look. We were very impressed with the collections and ended up staying much longer than anticipated. More

This is a fabulous art museum. It showcases art from all around the world including (but not limited to) old Asian art, Middle Eastern art, art of the Pacific, and early American Art. My personal favorite is the gallery with famous Impressionist art. The galleries are small but packed with beautiful, often famous pieces of art. This is a small... More
