A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II. « less

We enjoyed our visit to the Punchbowl Cemetery immensely. The drive from Waikiki to the location is quick and allows for you to enjoy views of the city. We stopped here after the Pearl Harbor tour, and it was a perfect companion visit. This is a beautiful final resting place for fallen heroes. More

Even though this is a cemetery, we always love to visit it, just to walk around enjoying it's beauty and views of Waikiki from above, as well as remembrance of those buried there. More
