The compound of remaining mission houses is unimpressive, but the tour guide brought the place to life. It was an interesting peek into the lives of the New England missionaries who sought to bring christianity to the Hawaiian Islands. Their stubborn clinging to New England modes of dress, housing, & diet when it was impractical to do so underscores the... More

Not just the house, but the grounds also feel like it is the mid 1800s. The book store is excellent, too More

If you are on your way back to Waikiki after spending time at the Iolani Palace, drop by the Mission Houses Museum. It's a pleasant way to spend half an hour, maybe have a snack at the cafe (or tea on Saturday). Learn about the missionaries and how they contributed to the history of Oahu. The lady who takes your... More

I'm always into the cultural/historical sights of places I go, so this was definitely on my list. (I'd read alot of the history before coming to HI so it was magical to actually see this place!) Being very conveniently located by other historical downtown sights, we went for the noon tour & tea party lunch at their cafe. Our tour... More

We made reservations for tea on a Saturday at the cafe at Mission Houses Museum. While the food was good, the portions were minuscule! For about $20.00, we received 1 tiny scone, three tiny sandwiches and 4 tiny desserts. This afternoon tea was overpriced. More

If you are at all interested in the history of New England missionaries in Hawaii, in the mid-19th-century history of these islands, in 19th-century domestic life, or even in the history of printing, make time to visit these wonderfully restored and maintained Hawaiian missionary houses, and be sure to take the information-packed tour. Even though it is "fashionable" these days... More

Visiting the Mission Houses Museum helped me understand the history of Hawaii and the phenomenal encounters between all the different cultures that came to the Islands in the 19th century. I enjoy history and this was the most interesting tour I had in Honolulu! Also, I had a great salad at the Museum cafe, and it was a relaxing break... More

Enjoyed! This was very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. I have a much better understanding of Hawaii's history now. I would have like some food or something to eat close by, but they tell me they are opening a small cafe/teahouse in September so that will be nice. More
