We got up early to start the climb to the top at 6:00 so we could see the sunrise. We took a taxi because it was too early for public transportation. We got there at around 6 and were dismayed to see no fewer than 6 tour busses filled with people doing the sunrise walk. The trail was crowded, the... More

We caught the 23 Bus from our hotel in Waikiki and the journey was around a 30 minutes to Diamond Head. It is a 90 minute return hike but well worthwhile doing for the spectacular scenery of the coastline whilst in Honolulu. We didn't find the hike too demanding. We caught the 2 Bus on our way home.

This was an excellent hike! We walked from Waikiki to Diamond Head (for some extra exercise!) and it was amazing. There's no need to book a tour to do this because it's all very intuitive. Carry some water with you and maybe a piece of fruit or two AND follow the directions that make a circuit around Diamond Head.

We were told that this was something everyone could handle. Well, that doesn't mean that it's easy. It's about the equivalent of a 50-storey building. Early in the day or late afternoon are the recommended times, and you're wise to take water. If you're a mountain goat type, you can make it up and down in less than 45 minutes.... More

Definitely check it out, get there early morning or else you'll hit the crowds. Awesome to see the old war bunkers, can get right in them and check them all out. Awesome spot to over look Waikiki and just general views.

We wanted to hike to the top of Diamond head to see the views, and were not disappointed, the views were stunning. But be warned the round trip may only be about a mile and a half, but it is quite steep and also involves tunnels and stairs, but is so worth it

Lace on your good walking shoes, point your nose southwest from the parking lot, and head up the trail to Diamond Head's summit. It's a heart-pounding hike, complete with a tunnel and even 99 steps up and up a concrete stairwell to the "fire-control" stations of the war-time mountain that protected Honolulu from a sea-borne invasion which never came. The... More

This is probably the most popular hike on Waikiki, so expect to pass lots of people on the trail. Much of the early part is paved. Once you hit the switchbacks, the trail becomes narrower and more uneven, and then there’s a tunnel (lit) and two sections with steep steps. Your reward is a lookout with 360-degree views of Waikiki,... More

We have two wonderful granddaughters-age 2 and age 6. We decided to hike Diamond Head with the idea that we would just go as far as they could. We sent our son and his wife ahead, and just traveled at a leisurely pace, letting people pass as need be. To our surprise we all made it to the top and... More

I absolutely loved the hike up and the scenery provided throughout. Compared to other trails I would rate this as simple/easy took about an hour total to walk up and down. For others it can take up to 2hrs. We stopped and took pictures throughout the hike, definitely recommend comfortable shoes and clothes as it gets warmer the higher up... More
