We strongly recommend anyone contemplating this hike to go EARLY! We started at 8 AM and because of that we were able to climb up in 20-25 minutes, same for the way down - and I'm not the fastest hiker on the trail. ;-) We stayed at the top for 30 minutes, which was great! As others have suggested, wear... more

This hike to Diamond Head is worth the couple of hours it took. I recommend starting early because the majority of the walk is in the sun. In addition, the parking lot fills up quickly and the guard makes people turn around (although there were three or four cars parked off to the side waiting for spaces). The walk is... more

My family (2 daughters 9 and 11) really enjoyed this hike. We took a taxi to the entrance in the morning. We had a snack standing up (no picnic tables, but that's ok!) before we began the hike. It was hot and sunny already, even for a late October morning. The hike was a bit crowded at times so you... more

This hike is in the city. There is no sense of nature other than being able to see a lot of water, houses, skyscrapers. At 11:00 am, it is busy and we spent a lot of time squeezing and wheezing by a lot of people that eventually were confined to a small area at the top. It might be nice... more

It was a good thing we did our hike in the morning (8:30am) because we were already soaked with sweat after walking for around 15 minutes. Bring liquids, a hat or cap, shoes fit for trekking, sunglasses, and put on sunblock. I saw several people wearing flip flops and sandals. Bad choice. One daddy who was wearing flip flops even... more

Not having a car, we were going to take the bus. We were approached by a taxi driver and were brought right into the crater ($6) (if you take the bus you are dropped off down the street and have a 1/2 mile or so walk into the crater). The hike is paved for the first 2/10 of a mile... more

Not far from Waikiki strip and easy to get to by bus. The trek up is not all that difficult. Lots of places to stop rest and take pictures. I saw women wearing heals on the hike... Maybe not your best choice in footwear. Tons of people and very busy, but when you get to the top you will see... more

Yes, the climb is long and for the most part boring, but the view at the top is amazing! Go early in the morning (opens at 6am) when it is not as hot or crowded. You won't be disappointed! more

I left my Hotel in Kuhio avenue at 10h30 and waited the bus for 30 minutes. The bus was overcrowded. 10 minutes later, I got off when I heard "Diamond head crater". Actually, the bus does not stop at the visitor parking. From the bus stop, you have to walk for 15 minutes to reach the starting point of the... more

This was an amazing adventure. The first part of the hike was very easy following the concrete sidewalk. The hike up Diamond Head does get more tough as you go onward. If you have bad knees you may want to avoid this hike. It has a combination of rocky, uneven trails, it goes uphill and there are many steps to... more
