About
Since opening in January 1999, the Battleship Missouri Memorial has attracted more than 10-million visitors from around the world with a fascinating tour experience showcasing the USS Missouri’s unique place in history. Located a mere ship’s length from the USS Arizona Memorial, the Mighty Mo completes a historical visitor experience that begins with the “day of infamy” and sinking of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and ends with Japan’s formal surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. The USS Missouri had an astounding career over five decades and three wars – World War II, the Korean War, and Desert Storm – after which it was decommissioned and donated to the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Association operates the Battleship Missouri Memorial as a historic attraction and oversees her care and preservation with the support of visitors, memberships, grants, and donations.

- donbalaanCanada74 contributionsHistoric and more impressive in person!Growing up as a child I have always wanted to experience being on a WWII battleship and witness the engineering of such great feats. It could not had been more fulfilling to experience this at Pearl Harbor on board the historic Missouri where the Japanese Surrendered. Those cannons are truly impressive to see in person, much much bigger than I had ever envisioned only seeing models of battleships (and having played WW of Battleships game). Tip: buy the souvenir caps at their shop. Their Missouri caps had a better design and better material for 10 dollars more than other crappy souvenir shops in Waikiki. We regretted not picking up an extra thinking we could save and buy else where.Visited March 2023Written March 26, 2023
- 440rosemarymReno, Nevada73 contributionsFun and HistoricalIt’s just plain fun wandering around the ship and getting a glimpse of how life aboard this ship might have been like. We also purchased the Chief Engineer’s Tour. It was a fascinating look at the inner workings of this great battleship. My husband worked in the Engine room of an aircraft carrier when he served in the Navy in the early 1970’s and he enjoyed the tour immensely. Our tour guide, John, was fantastic.Visited March 2023Written April 7, 2023

- LAMMER13Rochester Hills, Michigan217 contributionsExcellent tour. Important history.Options for self guided or a free guided tour. Finn was an excellent tour guide. This ship is so important for American and world history. The events that took place on the ship can never be forgotten. You stand where the Japanese signed the Instruments of Surrender ending World War II. This ship also has an extensive history in several conflicts in the Pacific and elsewhere in the world. It was mothballed a couple of times. Thankfully, it has been restored and the world can see and remember the important moments in history that took place on this ship.Visited April 2023Traveled soloWritten April 27, 2023

- Tami HSaint Charles, Missouri84 contributionsUSS Missouri was AMAZINGWhile visiting Pearl Harbor, USS Missouri was our favorite part. I hadn't been on a battleship before. Also, it was used from WWII to during the Gulf War period. It was AMAZING. They allowed us to move around most of the ship. I highly recommend that you plan to see it!Visited May 2023Written June 11, 2023
- CACTulsa, Oklahoma7 contributionsVery informative and excellent exhibitsThe process to get to the USS Missouri was easy and the guide was very informative. We took a self-guided tour and enjoyed walking on the various levels. I do not recommend eating at the food court as it was expensive! $30 for 3 hotdogs and two waters. The Pacific Aviation is next on the agenda. It was a great experience. We had a snack there and it was reasonable.Visited June 2023Traveled with familyWritten June 17, 2023

You can walk around self guided and/or take a 30 minute guided tour. There are 3 levels that you can explore on the self guided tour. If it gets too windy, then you won't be allowed to explore the upper areas. We paid $25 more to go on a small group tour that went below deck in areas that you could not go on the self guided tour. It only takes 10 people every hour, so you have to plan a little ahead. They have a marker on the spot that the surrender documents were signed. The gift shop had a lot of items that were not available at the other gift shops. It was really neat to walk around on an actual battleship that was used in conflicts and to learn about how it operated.

Visited on Friday, Dec. 3rd as part of a bus tour package which limited our time that we could stay. Still, we were able to see most of this Iowa class battleship which included visiting the upper decks and below decks. While there, there was a band playing music in preparation for the 80th anniversary events. The battleship has the designated area where the terms of surrender were signed by Japan. The ship was well preserved, but while touring, you have to be careful walking up and down the steep metal stairs where you can fall or hit your head. Also, it can be windy on the upper decks so make sure your hat is secure. We were there for about 1 1/2 hours, but you can easily spend 2-3 hours if you read all the info. on the displays and exhibits and take a lot of photos. I was impressed with how well preserved the ship was and would recommend a visit during your stay.

Although the weather was a mess we made the most of our day at Pearl Harbor. Dan gave an amazing tour and shared his passion for the US military including his personal accounts Of the the Missouri and the end of WWII with the surrender treaty signing. He was very considerate of our family’s needs with our older mother who was in a wheelchair. Thank you for a great day.

Moored across from the USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Missouri is an Iowa-class battleship with a career that has spanned over 75 years and three wars along with 11 battle stars. The ship was decommissioned in 1992 and donated to its current guarantor, the USS Missouri Memorial Association, in 1998. Along with the Arizona Memorial, USS Bowfin, and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, it is one of the main attractions at Pearl Harbor. It was closed and undergoing refurbishment (paint and sealing of leaks) during my first visit to the area in December of 2009. During my current trip, I blocked off an entire day to spend here and it was well worth it.
Access to the ship is on the same shuttle as the Aviation Museum; after purchasing my ticket it was a quick walk and about a 10-minute ride to the site. Given adjustments necessitated by COVID there were no guided tours available but docents were scattered about and as always knowledgeable and friendly. A small pamphlet handed out at the ticket counter described the three main parts of the ship accessible to us: above decks, main deck, and second (below) deck. Most of us started on the main deck where the Kamikaze Deck is the main attraction. Visits to the bow and main gun batteries are a must; the flight deck/stern was not accessible due to a wedding (!). The Surrender Deck was next and clearly a focal point as well. A plaque and instruments of surrender are prominently displayed, and again docents were hovering around able to explain everything in detail. After the main deck, most of us travelled to the second deck where most of the “learning” about the ship and its daily life occurred. Interspersed among exhibits on kamikazes, the building of the ship, and the life of a Chief Petty Office are bunk beds for the sailors, enlisted and officer mess halls, dental facilities, and the post office among innumerable others. A visit above decks completed the tour with the navigation bridge, Tomahawk deck, and Combat Engagement Center being the highlights. Total time spent on site was probably four hours.
Overall, my visit here was a superb experience. Obviously I have an interest in this type of attraction, but this truly is a site that can be appreciated by those with even a passing curiosity. The ship is easy to access from the harbor, it’s relative compactness leads to an efficient visit, and the customer service overall was superb. Even those pressed for time can simply visit the Surrender Deck, Kamikaze Deck, and then quickly run below to get a sense of what life is like for those men and women who serve on board these vessels. It’s an attraction that’s definitely kid-friendly as well; the children I saw seemed to be in awe of the sheer size of the “museum” as the adults listened and read for a more didactic experience.
Choose your phrase: highly recommended, thumbs up, essential visit for history buffs, superb, etc.

We had previously seen the Missouri, along with the Arizona Memorial and the Aviation Museum, on a bus tour but wanted to do a longer tour of the Missouri so went again on its own. My tip would be to allow plenty of time - we arrived about midday and were finished just before closing time at 4pm, and needed every bit of that. It is possible to go through quicker, but all the displays were very interesting so we wanted to look at it all. For those interested, a trip to the Missouri is excellent.

Two adults visited here on a Thursday in early February and thoroughly enjoyed it. We used the GoOahu card for tickets.
Took one of the free guided tours of the main deck that lasted about 30 minutes. Rest of tour was self-guided both below and above the main deck. Believe you can also rent audio tours of the ship but we didn't have time.
Incredible to be on the ship exactly where WW II was ended and where Japan signed the surrender documents. Lots of history here.

We just visited the USS Missouri, everting was great except it was a very windy day.......over 30 miles per hour. Even with the strong wind we had a good time. Going below deck and seeing sleeping, eating, cooking area was one of the highlights of the tour.

It was interesting to see the difference between a battleship and a submarine. Our tour guide did a pretty good job about explaining the history in an fascinating way. However when touring the insides of the ship the fumes were a bit much and could have been better if there was an audio tour. Overall though very informative and impressive!

I visited the Missouri Battleship in September 2023 and I must say it is a place not to be missed. It is loaded with so much history and emotion that it is downright overwhelming. If you visit Pearl Harbor, choose to visit the Missouri Battleship. You won't be sorry.
You will need at least 2 hours to visit the ship and the price per person is $35. This price is only for visiting the ship, if you want to visit other attractions within Pearl Harbor, they involve separate costs.

Touring the Battleship Missouri, site of the Japanese surrender in World War II, is an eye-opening window into an authentic piece of history. The half-hour tour by well-informed staff on the ship was first class. It was moving to stand on the spot where the War was ended. It was also interesting to see the small spaces in which so many people worked.

A group of us are doing the captain's tour of the Battleship Missouri Memorial and two of my friends are worried that they won't be able to do it as they are overweight and the tour states tight doorways and steep, narrow steps. Does anyone know if there is a weight requirement to do the captain's tour? Would it be better if they did the self guided tour instead?
Jaclyn H

Aloha, thank you for booking the Captain's Tour on board the historic USS Missouri. We do not have any weight limitations for the tour, but understanding the physical constraints involved are important. There are some narrow hatches that guests have to navigate to see parts of the ship. The entry to Gun Turret one is 15" x 30" with a steep narrow ladder. Other doorways are 25.5" x 53" and 24" wide. We hope that helps. Feel free to call us with more questions.

My dad was on the Missouri when the treaty was signed between the USA and Japan ending WWII in the Pacific. Are there any ways I can look up my dad's name of being on the ship and what his dutoes were at that time?

I would try Fold3 or you can look on the USS Missouri web site. There is a large photo of a group of people when papers were signed for surrender, but it's mainly the big wigs

Several people have said that they would not recommend touring independently and that you should go through a tour company. If we are not worried about transportation to Pearl Harbor and want to be on our own schedule, is it really that hard to do on our own. (I will already have the USS Arizona tickets.)

I prefer a self guided tour, which allows me the prerogative of going at my own pace; stopping longer here to take pictures, omitting or quickly moving through this part, etc. The problem with going to the Battleship was the bus schedule, which you have to take, since they don't allow personally owned vehicles on the base,(unless you ARE military and have credentials, I believe). We bought the Go Oahu card, which saved us a ton of money, and did all three at the Nat'l Park; the USS Arizona, the Battleship Missouri, and the Bowfin Submarine. In fact, I don't think I saw one tour the whole time we were there. There are volunteers on hand ( former Navy personnel) to give talks and answer questions, and who provide history. Catch the shuttle bus and take the 5 minute ride over from the Arizona.

Yes, you can take an Uber ride there. You can either buy tickets there at the location, or you can buy them off of their website. Prices are $34.99/adult or $17.49/child. Since you have a larger group, you may want to purchase them in advance.
As the previous answer noted, you would have to take a bus ride over to Ford Island from the main entrance. They have personnel there to help guide you where the bus is located and when it leaves. The bus ride last only about 5 minutes or so.

Hi, I am trying to figure if we can visit the Battleship and the Bow Fin Submarine. Is it possible to walk between both attractions across a bridge or are there free shuttle busses? We are already paying uber fare to get to the AZ Memorial, so we are hoping we can visit both the Battleship and Submarine without additional cost, other than the tickets. Our trip is in August, thanks.

There is a complimentary shuttle that takes guests from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center (where both the USS Arizona Memorial and Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park are located) to the Battleship Missouri!
I'm looking to purchase the "Passport to Pearl Harbour", which includes a general admission to Missouri. However, I'm also very interested in the new "Heart of Missouri" tour.
My question is: will I have to pay 59$ more (price of the tour which includes general admission, at which point I might as well just buy all tickets separately) or 25$ (the difference) since I already have a general admission included.
Hi, we paid 64usd for everything,Arizona memorial, missouri, and the air museum really enjoyed it. We took the purple line trolley bus drop you of 100mts away its a full day to do it all if you miss the last trolley bus back about 4.15pm stay at the bus stop and get bus nbr, 42 takes you full length of Waikiki 2.75usd each have correct money tho. Hope this helps you enjoy.

For the web site for the battleship, google battleship missouri. It will tell you about tickets and tours. You need to allow enough time to get from the Arizona visitors center on a shuttle bus to the battleship site. We did the Heart of the Missouri tour and it was excellent. That tour is a timed ticket extra from the regular admission.
