What an appreciation for the philanthropic endeavors of Doris Duke was gained by this visit to Rough Point. The guides are excellent (my third trip). Make it a point to try to find some of the homes which her foundation has so carefully preserved for us to enjoy to this day. More

The location is wonderful and the docent was very good. Best part was the art collection, especially if you like portraiture. More

Rough Point offers insights into the lifestyle of one of the wealthiest women in the world in her time. Doris Duke was a great benefactor of Newport far beyond leaving her incredible, beautiful mansion open to the public. She saved many of Newport's oldest buildings, and working with Jackie Kennedy, restored the 1811 Whitehorne House to house her collection of... More

I learnes a lot about Doris Duke and enjoyed her wonderful art collection. The original art is what distinguishes this place from the other more ornate mansions. Well worth the rather high price of admission and the grounds are beautiful More

When I was kid growing up in Rhode Island in the 1960's, we all gawked at the guard dogs, security guards and the stunning Ms. Doris Duke at Rough Point when we walked the Cliff Walk. (Yes, she has very little privacy on her property on a nice summer weekend day!) Over 35 years later, when we visited Rough Point... More
