Different and interesting

The mansion and history are different from many of the other mansions that we have visited in the past. Very informative and an interesting look into the life of Doris Duke.

Yes, this was really a home occupied by Doris Duke. Guides will tell you stories about her times living there. She inherited the property at age 13 when her father died. Her property is set on a spectacular point on the Atlantic Ocean. One can just imagine summer parties or events out on the beautiful lawn with the ocean as... More

Phenomal place! Doris Duke was an amazing woman, I wish I could have met her. Rough Point is exactly how she left it back in 1992, the year before she passed away. I learned a lot about her on the Viking Tour I took and then had to go back and tour this amazing home. There are so many beautiful... More

This is the mansion to see if you prefer stunning ocean views and fabulous art. The house is more modest compared to the others but has a fine collection of paintings, including one by Ferdinand Bol that is one of the most beautiful portraits I have seen. A must see for any art lover.

While a tour of the house is limited, the views and location are exceptional. While most of the houses on the tour of Bellview Ave. do not have a full water view, this home of Doris Duke is surrounded.

We drove down on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon from Boston to visit Rough Point and Newport. This was a very spontaneous decision prompted by my older son who had recently been down to the Breakers and thought it was worth revisiting. In short, we had a great day. There is so much written about this property that it is... More

This mansion was left and preserved the way Doris Duke left it when she died in 1993, and that sets it apart from the others in Newport. It's location, jutting into the Atlantic, is fabulous and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We loved it!

Rough Point, the home of the late Doris Duke is truly appealing. It's not as nouveau-riche as the Vanderbilt mansions in their gaudiness. Toward the end of Duke's life it was her home for many months of the year till she died in the 1990s. It has a 270º view of the Atlantic Ocean from the point, impressive with its... More

One of the Summer homes of Doris Duke. What an amazing lady. A princess for our times. The Society did a nice job on the tours and the art inside Rough Point was astounding. The grounds are icing on the cake., 10 acres you can roam with 270 degree views of the water. The secret gardens are a must see.... More

Went to Rough Point as we had seen most of the Preservation Society Mansions. This was so special! Furnished with the original items of Doris Duke, which made it so much more meaningful. Docent giving the tour was new but had amazing facts at her finger tips with wonderful background information and stories about art and antiques that really enhanced... More
