Breathtaking Views from Doris Duke House

This is a don't miss in Newport. Doris Duke was such a part of the town and contributed so much. Her house and everything in it is amazing.

It's the only house museum in Newport kept as it's original owner, Doris Duke, left it. Excellent docent led our group of four. Separate entrance fee from Preservation Society homes, but well worth it! Make sure to find out about the camel topiaries in the front yard. Cute story about them and their snack, graham crackers!

The location is just magnificent surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic. The house is great being almost 100 authentic from the time Doris Duke died. The live tour is very good but could be a bit shorter. This house is magnificent as well as the grounds. What I did not like is that they are transforming part of the... More

Although it isn't part of the Preservation society and requires a separate payment it is worth the visit. Estate seems more authentic as it was left as the owner actually used it. Our tour guide, Maureen, was had a great knowledge of the art work and the family history.

We arrived at 3:30 which is the last tour of the day. But our guide. Barbara, did not rush us. She spent a full hour and half telling us great stories about the art, artifacts, architecture, and family. It was delightful to hear a guide bringing the stories to life, instead of a prerecorded audio tape that is in most... More

Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable about the estate and Doris Duke. The grounds, including the gardens, are beautiful.

Great tour! A little pricey and no Duke discount ;) I'd been wanting to do this one for years and between the grounds and the well-versed tour guides, it was worth it.

With out Doris Duke we probably would not be able to visit any of the great Mansions of Newport. Ms. Duke founded the Newport Preservation Society. Her home is the only one that lookes lived in. Very nice varied art collection. Old Flemish, English and American artist. Ming Dynasty to contemporary ceramics. Some of which she expertly repaired herself. (she... More

It seemed like a great thing to do on a rainy day but we didn't get to see the grounds. The house is more intimate than others around but a satisfying experience.
