We visited Belcourt Castle for the ghost tour on November 12, 2009. We've been on a number of ghost tours in various cities, and this one surpassed them all because it featured a variety of stories of ghostly apparitions in a gilded age mansion with wonderful architecture and art. The owner, Mrs. Tinney, conducted the entire tour, which included her... more

Like an idiot, I fell for the tourist trap sign advertising "Ghost Tours" at the Belcourt Castle. It seemed like it would be an interesting tour, and my wife and I were expecting to at least see or hear something worthwhile - especially for $18 a person. Instead, the "tour" started 15 minutes late. It began with the most boring... more

My wife and I have been on ghost tours in California as well as Williamsburg, Virginia and found them fun and educational. This ghost tour however, would prove to be different. With the entrance and check-in process so unorganized, I should have guessed right away that the impending ghost tour was going to be a big disappointment. To begin with,... more

Belcourt Castle is rich with fascinating history and artifacts from around the world. The owner, Ms. Tinney is a charming woman and the staff is very friendly. The castle itself has a mix of different period and cultural influences and the artwork and artifacts found within are well perserved and make you feel as if you have been whisked inside... more

Belcourt Castle matrimony was the kind of thing that you would expect to see in a Newport mansion – NOT! The owner promised my friend that it would be a day to remember – IT WAS! The event was hurried about from point to point so much that every single moment looked the same. When I complained, I was brusquely... more

We decided to be adventurous and embarked on the 5pm ghost tour of Belcourt Castle. While it may not be a 'castle' per say, it doesn't matter; I'd still rather live in another house because this tour gave me the hibbie gibbies. The owner Mrs. Tinney, was one of our tour guides and detailed her life and the mysterious 'monk... more

We went on the Belcourt Castle Ghost Tour last evening, and it was such a disapointment. I've heard so much about the supposedly haunted mansion,so I was looking forward to going on this tour and seeing the artifacts that they say attracts spirits from the past and first hand stories of staff's experiences. While there were some of these stories,... more

The moment we saw it we knew. The line of men in suits of armor, the beautiful fireplace to say our vows in front of, an elegant party in the main dining room. I wanted the fairy tale and I got it, complete with a Prince, but that is another story. I, the bride, was able to use the Queens... more

The owner of Belcourt Castle said that she will close Belcourt Castle on January 1, 2010 ... I guess the castle’s “ghosts” will simply have to find somewhere else to haunt. Belcourt Castle isn’t really a castle. It is like a faux Munster Mansion. A veritable tourist trap visited by a few gullible visitors…count me in. My tour was a... more

Despite the perky guide, the Alva tour is more like badly done community theater than a tourist attraction. I was sorely disappointed when I toured Belcourt Castle. It is less spruce than Newport's other tourist attractions. Stacked up to other Newport mansions - the colors of the house are not quite as vivid, the door knobs not quite as polished,... more
