There are more tourist traps in Newport than tourists, but Beechwood is an entertainment feast. Mrs. Astor knew how to be rich. To be properly rich was a fine art that required culture and character. The actors performed superbly and involved the audience which added to everyone's enjoyment. more

I was lucky enough to be on my own tour. The idea of having members of the family give the tour is just wonderful. Far more interesting than the normal routine tours of other mansions. This was far more interesting and one I will always remember. You just have to get into it and I think some of the other... more

Beechwood is a welcome break from the snobby tours of the Preservation Society Mansions. The Living History tours are great and you learn all the things you would learn on a regular tour in a more exciting way. I personally love Beechwood itself because it is so much brighter and takes in more light than most of the other mansions.... more

We LOVED the other Newport mansions, but this one was terrible. There was no real "tour." Instead, you are a captive audience to play actors. The house is not much to see either. For $20 per person, it should have been much better. We wished we had not wasted our time or our money. Do other things in Newport instead... more

I hate to give a totally negative review but here was my experience attending the Christmas Victorian Tour. No advanced tickets are required just show up 15 mins before the time to buy your tickets. The Victorian Christmas tour consisted of 20 minutes that you can tour the various rooms on your own. In each room was a costumed guide... more

Beechwood is a privately-owned business that conducts rather contrived tours given by young people in costume who pretend to be members of the Astor family or their servants. Overall it felt like an attempt at amateur theater. We took the normal daytime tour and were disappointed that the dining room was closed for our tour because it had just been... more

We visited this mansion at the advice of our concierge who recommended seeing it for a little bit of history prior to hitting the Breakers. We regretted it. It was horribly cheesy and didn't even give us the history about the period that we would have liked to know. The actors were very sweet but the "show" was just awkward... more

We made reservations for the Evening with the Astors at the Beechwood Mansion, and had a great time. The hosts (actors)were in period costumes of the 1890s, and we were the "guests" of the Astors for the evening. All conversations were related to the 1890s. We were able to tour the mansion before the ball, and take photos inside (which... more

The interior was not overly impressive. The guided "acted-out" tour was good, but just wasn't really overly impressed. The reviews made it sound like the acted out tour would be really neat and fun, it was OK. Overall, it was nice, but not sure it was really worth the $15 each (currently having a price reduction). more

We enjoyed this tour. Very different from the others in that their are actors to show your around and involve you. The year is 1891 and we are applying for servant positions. The mansion is not opulent by any means and could not hold a candle to some of the other mansions I saw r/t Rough Point,Breakers But I really did... more
